Immigration Reform Markup
Sen. Arlen Spector (R-PA) chairs a full Judiciary Committee meeting to mark up pending legislation including a draft bill on comprehensive immigration overhaul. Also, the committee will vote on a bill to televise Supreme Court proceedings and judicial nominations to federal courts.
MON. ON C-SPAN AT 10AM ET
"I respectfully disagree. I think the issue of BICE reform and immigration law reform have to be addressed at the same time Border Security is addressed. If you don't, you are going to create MORE illegals because the incentives won't go away."
How can enforcing border security create "MORE" illegals?
The difference is that Frist's plan is better politically in a tough election year. Imagine the Dems filibustering a border enforcement bill. Bush's plan is political suicide.
Apparently, some liberal judge imposed an injunction on certain deportations of illegals and it has been appealed to the 9th circuit. Kennedy thinks it is bad policy to legislate on an issue that is before a court.
Kennedy still sober?
Thank you for the motivation!
What's the latest? No vote on anything yet?
I can never really tell. Kennedy says Kyl (the Senator from Virginia?) misrepresented his bill. This is ridiculous. They want people who come here illegally to get in the track to citizenship if they stay employed, but they have to leave if they are unemployed for more than 45 days. Who is going to be able to track this?
I hope this comes about.
But, we need to urge the Senators to vote for H.R. 4437, as it passed the house already.
Did he really say from Virginia? LOL! Ted lives in Virginia for the love of God, he should know that Senator Kyle is from Arizona. As for the bill, I don't know what I feel. I believe we have to do something but I surely know not what. But that thing Kennedy says is just silly. Who indeed will be able to status everyone every 45 days. Having been a temp contractor, I might work 3 days and be off for a week, then work again. :)
Yes. Nobody batted an eye. It's just old scrambled brains after all.
You are doing your part as well. We all must do our part.
I don't understand what there is to discuss and they've wasted ALL day doing it.
Each immigrant is here either LEGALLY or ILLEGALLY.
Period.
Exactly. We need to stick with Frist and get the flow stopped. Seal the border so tight that not even a fly can get through. Then we can go from there.
My sympathy for illegals gets a little less everyday when I see them out in MY streets protesting and holding signs that say,"I didn't cross the border, the border crossed me".
Doesn't seem to matter what Kennedy or Kyl said...Kyl once again got voted down...sigh
Folks you are witnessing what will happen if any of you stay home in November, or vote 3rd party because you are mad at President Bush...
The Kennedy's of the Congress...will get EVERY vote..even though he rarely makes sense.

I wonder if Sessions will vote against taking the measure up, if the Cloture motion passes - although I think Frist's cloture motion will fail, meaning that the Senate will not shut off debate on a motion to take up Frist's Secure America's Borders Act.
ROFLOL! I missed that, I tend to go into a coma when he speaks.
"I don't think Bush wants them to go back first, he wants them to pay a fine first, stay in place, apply and then go to work."
An illegal would have to be an idiot to join the guest worker program - he'd be taxed, subject to worker comp, ohsha, everything else. Therefore Guest Worker is dead on arrival.
I agree with Senator Sessions, I think we need to take our time and get it right.
