BRITAIN and France have experienced long periods of conflict and rivalry but now victory in one area can be claimed: Britons are more intelligent than the French.
A new European league of IQ scores has ranked the British in eighth place, well above the French, who were 19th. According to Richard Lynn of the University of Ulster, Britons have an average IQ of 100. The French scored 94. But it is not all good news. Top of the table were the Germans, with an IQ of 107. The British were also beaten by the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Italy, Austria and Switzerland.
Professor Lynn, who caused controversy last year by claiming that men were more intelligent than women by about five IQ points on average, said that populations in the colder, more challenging environments of Northern Europe had developed larger brains than those in warmer climates further south. The average brain size in Northern and Central Europe is 1,320cc and in southeast Europe it is 1,312cc. The early human beings in northerly areas had to survive during cold winters when there were no plant foods and they were forced to hunt big game, he said. The main environmental influence on IQ is diet, and people in southeast Europe would have had less of the proteins, minerals and vitamins provided by meat which are essential for brain development.

Who said I way referring to the poll? Wrong assumption on your end.
Like I keep saying..all the smart Frenchmen moved to the US over 200 years ago. ;)
By definition, arrogance is that you say that you are superior but you aren't. Saying that it is better here and the reality matches it is not being arrogant: it is just stating a fact.
For instance, when I say that the air transport system in the United States is much better than Russia, or when I state Confucian practice of honouring your parents is superior tio typically Western ways, it isn't arrogance. The truth is self-evident, as America's founders would say, you can't deny or escape from that points.
My mistake.
Do you know the term Überheblichkeit? That´s exactly what was shown here. Unfortunately, the English language doesn´t have the same amount of words we have.
(Sorry..just had to say it!) LOL!
I think by New Zealand standards some would say the American posters are being cheeky but it definitely isn't arrogance. And in my native Hong Kong - a society that treats business, work, successes and failures in a very American way - it wouldn't be considered cheeky at all. There are too Cantonese terms for cheeky - one is a milder term "nga chak" and the other very serious degoratory term "chuen" (while arrogance is literally translated as "hiu cheung"). They may be guilty of "nga chak-ness" but a far way off from "hiu cheung".
IQ stories are like sex and fishing stories, everyone lies....
LOL....I love this stuff.
Any bloodletting yet?
In that case, there is no point to deny that the rich has cars, etc. If he downplays that (i.e. being "sensitive"), other people will say he is being false humble. In other words, d***ed if you do, and d***ed if you don't.
Well, while we are being taken over by third world countries grasping at the 'coming here for a better life, YOURS' Yeah I guess we are smart, NOT...
America is declining. Look at what is happening on the news. Protests nationwide for illegal immigrants. Sorry, I don't buy that...
Father of soon to be five.
Take my word for it that intelligence as well as all other personality traits are inherited at least to some degree.
This preposterous notion of late that it's all nurture and that by nature we are all the same is utter nonsense.
"Imagine a situation: a rich man comes to his poor neighbor and starts talking about his wealth: how many limousines he has, how many yachts etc. And it's not empty bragging - he's really rich. Is it an example of arrogance? I don't know. My English is not so good, there may be another term for that. It may be sensitivity gap or something else. Any suggestions?"
Some foreigners use this as an excuse to justify anti-Americanism - I'm not saying that Alex-DV does so, just that he is reporting what some think. As Americans, do you think this excuse of anti-Americanism is justified and why or why not?
I don't doubt Asjkenazim Jews are damned smart but their political choices predominately as a group over the years have often been not so smart.
which makes me wonder if IQ is a cure all?
in some environments like prison or an apocalypse, brawn or marksmanship might be preferred
You can be successful with a good average because large projects and companies always desperately need a performing middle. You can't make everything fool proof.
A good elite plus some jerks make a good team for short term success in brand new fields.
If you want to ride a long ramp-up or a long economic cycle you need an organisation based on clever individuals.
Ping! I'm interested to see your take on post 94, thanks.
Germans are brainiest - Then someone explain the Hasselhoff infatuation....on second thought, don't explain it.
Only in the liberal controlled cities...LOL!
