This is another reason why I have come to enjoy FR!

Its Sunday morning and here we have first hand insight into how a totally self absorbed "child" is created.

Its educational!! But hardly amusing.

Beyond the $2400 designer Jovani dress, the prom package includes multi-carat Chopard diamonds....

Chopard diamond ring----their specialty is paveed diamonds on everything,
including watches, and encasing loose diamonds within their designs, as above.

>>>Jenna Cossuto spent $2,400 on her custom-made dress.

My wedding gown was custom made. It cost $754 dollars. It was made by a little Italian woman in a run down mom and pop shop. My gown is absolutely stunning and preserved.

When I was in school the theme was "better dead than at the prom."

Of course, I went to a private school populated with the most anti-social youth.

Has anyone seen that show on MTV called My Sweet 16? On this show you will see the epitome of a spoiled rotten kid and the parents who are willing to give their kids whatever they want. I find this behavior disgusting especially when it is most likely encouraged by the producers of this show. Just hope the girl doesn't get any Monica stains on that dress of hers.

Cost of overhyped prom: $10,000.

Realistic cost of prom: $500

$9,500 after 30 years invested (assume 10% yearly gain): $165,769.32

If I ever have kids, I am going to teach them about investing and compound interest the day they hit age 10.

LOL!

I wore a formal dress that belonged to my grandmother to the prom. My date wore his Army uniform (which was a bit of a shocker in the 70s, but he was 6'6" and nobody said a word.) We went to the prom in a 1962 Studebaker convertible. My parents did pay for me to have my hair done.

We got married 4 years later. Still married 29 years later. I still have the dress, in case my daughter wants to wear it to the prom (I don't think so - it's sadly out of fashion now.)

Didn't the richest, most famous skank in the world book parties in Paris, Hong Kong, New York, L.A. and so on for her 21st birthday and fly all of her little 'friends' in chartered jets to the 'events'?

Is there not something in the Bible that mentions people becoming more haughty and self-absorbed the closer we get to the end times?

Observing the severely critical on-line mob that seems to be gathering, I feel quasi-paternal duty to offer a few words of understanding for the young woman featured in this article. Spending thousands of dollars on a teenager's prom (when you are not the teenager in question) may seem like a ridiculous act, but I think more people than will readily admit it have tastes just as fabulous and extreme as the child who is now being so brutally assailed.

I am 26 years old and have damn sure spent more than $10,000 dollars on booze in my lifetime so far. And I missed prom! If you're honest, some of you will admit that you have spent several times that yourself. Was your spending really a more worldly endeavor than the doubtlessly amusing time had by this girl?

If you take into account compound interest of only 8% (I believe they told me this was the time value of money in grad school) in 70 years, that would have become $2.1M dollars. But in 70 years, I will likely have become an angel or fertilizer, and either way will have no use of the money.

I cannot say for sure whether there will be any good bars in Heaven. I doubt it, because I've never found well-attended bars near well-attended churches. So, once I arrive in that great dry county in the sky, I will be relishing the memories of every fabulous drunk I ever pitched in the far flung capitols of Earth, no matter what I paid for them -- because they were a hell of a lot of fun, and I certainly don't foresee any more of them occurring where I plan to go!

So I'm not going to begrudge this young lady her own ridiculously excessive entertainment. Good on her parents for making enough money to buy such nice things for her. I'm sure they worked their asses off for their money so that they could spoil their kids.

Whatever I don't drink away, which I genuinely hope and intend will still be a considerable sum after my deductions, well... I hope the kids take it and have one hell of a prom. If there's any left after that, I recommend acquiring real estate or low risk mutual funds.

Cossuto got $550 Gucci shoes, a matching handbag, tanning sessions, eyebrow shaping and professional hair and makeup for the big day, June 7.

She GOT the tanning, brows, hair and makeup already? By my calendar it's still only March.

And as Jenna Cossuto and her friends live in thier fantasy world of mass/pop/crap/slave culture inspired by MTV and sanctioned by parents with entirely too much disposable income and far too little maturity and morality...

The terrorists finalize their next wave of attacks, China grows stronger and becomes one step closer to realizing their 1000 year dream of world domination, a million illegal invaders swarm the border, never to leave...

Let her and her friends have their prom! For this will be the highlight of what will prove to be a sad, wasted life cut short by the cruel, cruel, world surrounding them (and getting ever-so-closer).

TEEN'S DREAM $10,000 PROM

The children of illegals would do it much cheaper.
