Fate conspires to remind us what this war is really about: civilizational confidence. And so history repeats itself: first the farce of the Danish cartoons, and now the tragedy - a man on trial for his life in post-Taliban Afghanistan because he has committed the crime of converting to Christianity.
The cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad were deeply offensive to Muslims, and so thousands protested around the world in the usual restrained manner - rioting, torching, killing, etc.

No doubt the old British had to actually hang a few of the Indians to make their point to the radicals. The solution in Afghanistan is to face them down on their own soil with meaningful threats of death.
"In a more culturally confident age, the British in India were faced with the practice of "suttee" - the tradition of burning widows on the funeral pyres of their husbands. Gen. Sir Charles Napier was impeccably multicultural:
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: When men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks, and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."
India today is better off without suttee. If we shrink from the logic of that, then in Afghanistan and many places far closer to home the implications are, as the Prince of Wales would say, "ghastly.""
When England had a spine!
What kind of person freely joins a religion that promises death to you if you ever leave it?
It simply boggles the mind that so many are so blind to this hate filled promise of nothingness. Cant follow this logic.
Brilliant all the way through. I also liked this bit, building on bin Ladin's comment that most people prefer a strong horse to a weak one:
"Most prominent Western leaders sound way too eager to climb into the weak-horse suit and audition to play the rear end."
I was surprised to learn that in its origin, it was associated with islam.
It's like the Mafia. People join it because they like the idea of having power. You can't leave the Mafia, either.
Islam is a religion for bullies.
"Islam and Western Civilization are not at all compatible!!"
truer words were never spoken here
It seems to me that the Cleric who calls for the death should be the one to hang. I think that sixes the problem really quickly.

Actually, islam, like the mafia, is an organization of psychopaths.
--I know--"thug" originated with "Thuggee" also--
1. I think some of the media is just beginning to realize how barbaric and uncivilized Islam is. Examples: (1) this week, Brit Hume said something to the effect that the Koran does call for tolerance and freedom of religion, doesn't it? (2) On O'Reilly's radio show yesterday, he basically admitted that he did not know until very recently what Islam is like and now he wonders if we should even be over there. (To which his guest, Cal Thomas, said "they're coming after us anyway".)
2. When Bush calls Islam a "religion of peace", I wonder if he knows what it is really like.
3. Instead of dealing with Islam, to quote Andrew C. McCarthy of the National Review Online, with "polite fictions" and "airy ambiguities", we need to recognize them for what they really are and deal with them that way. The British handling of "suttee" in India sounds like a good approach.
4. The media and the politicians need to lose the "political correctness" with regard to Islam and tell us how it really is.
If that ever happens, it'll be World War III, which of course we will win.
Maybe so, what do we do then?
