Brilliant all the way through. I also liked this bit, building on bin Ladin's comment that most people prefer a strong horse to a weak one:

CORRECTION: It was not "most people". Bin Laden made an essentialistic comment. "When people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature they will like the strong horse."

Why, exactly, did you shrink from that meaning, with your "most people" modifier?
