Oh yes, that's so much better. A family that would cut off all your appendages just to keep you alive. I have made it absolutely clear to my family, my friends, and those that may be around if I'm ever in the same situation to cut off the power and go home. There is a point that it's time to let go. It doesn't matter. The poor woman is finally at peace, it's over, move on.
And don't anyone bother responding with your 'facts' that you heard from the nurse's second cousin's waitress' friend who works at Denny's who just happened to be sitting next to Judge Greer nephew's next door neighbor in a Scientology meeting 20 years ago about some grand plan because it's over. Frankly I think the lot of you have gone off the deep end and you give conservatism a bad name
But having a clearly written Living Will would take care of that - specifying that you would be allowed to die rather than take extreme measures for you to continue living.
There was nothing in writing about Terri, and the fact that Michael only had two kids by his lover while he was still married to Terri and was her Legal Guardian makes this case suspicious...
Here's a thought: Write it down.
Given some of your posts, I doubt that your family will have any objections.
Cut off the power? Terri wasn't on life support. She was DEHYDRATED to death, a horrible, painful manner of death.
That's what you told your family to do to you? Hope you enjoy having your lips crack and your tongue swell as you convulse in pain from lack of fluid to your vital organs.
Well, then, Rush, Laura Ingrahm, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Dennis Praeger, and Micahael Medved to name a few, must be helping us "nuts" along.
Whether or not there were some kooky elements of the conservative movement who supported continued life for Teri Schindler, it does NOT change the fact that position was a "mainstream" conservative position. As Bill Crystal on Fox News said, it wasn't even a close call.
Frankly, I think self-proclaimed "conservative" who doesn't hold with the pro-life principles of Ronald Wilson Reagan on the matter gives the movement an even worse name.
"I know there are many who sincerely believe that limiting the right of abortion violates the freedom of choice of the individual. But if the unborn child is a living entity, then there are two individuals, each with the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
President Ronald Reagan Conservative Political Action Conference (C-PAC) -February 18, 1983
Key words: "living entity" and the right to life."
Do you know any severe diabetics? Because of poor circulation in their lower extremities, sometimes they get gangrene and are forced to lose limbs.
I'm not saying that this was the case for this unfortunate lady, but to say that you'd rather "cut off the power and go home" is disingenuous at best.
Your profile and tag line indicates to me that you honor your Confederate ancestors, as I do mine. I can tell you from personal research that they fought with inadequate food, ragged uniforms, and no shoes because they valued FAMILY, HONOR, and WHAT THEY BELIEVED WAS RIGHT, not for personal convenience. If they worshipped the 20th century trinity of "me, myself, and I" they would have gone over to Lincoln's army and gotten paid with real money and been fed plenty of taxpayer-provided food.
"Deo Vindice" as I translate it means "God will vindicate" and believe me, He will. He will.
Given the way Michael was "caring" for Terri, any agreement that Terri could be put down if she developed gangrene would have been taken as an invitation for Michael to see that she did so.
So is Nicole Simpson.
I am so happy for you that you have made your wishes well known to your family. I don't know how old you are, but just know that you also have the right to change your mind at any time about that. Lots of people do when the chips are down. That we might be ignored because of something we said 20 years ago is horrific, but as Michael noted, humanitarian that he is, it happens every day.
About Terri - the bottom line is that a non-terminally ill severely disabled woman was killed by court order. Terri was not comatose and could feel pain (she got morphine suppositories while she was being dehydrated to death). Michael's conflict of interest as her guardian is obvious to all except the ill-informed and those who just don't give a damn about disabled and old people being euthanized.
Bottom line for Michael -- he has never been put under oath about what happened to Terri in the first place. He was repeatedly on Larry King show telling different stories every time he was on. He even declared that he had no idea what Terri would have wanted, but that "this is what we want." That is, he and his girlfriend wanted to be married by a priest in the Catholic church (ahh, the irony). Michael had to be a widower and not divorced for that to happen.
Were Terri's best interests served in any of this? All I can say is that Michael can't hurt her any more. For that I guess I am grateful.

I'd rather be alive with no appendages than dead with them. Says in the Bible to poke out the evil eye, doesn't it?......
