Michael Schiavo Caught in Serious Distortion of Truth on NBC Interview

By John-Henry Westen

CLEARWATER, FLA., March 24, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Michael Schiavo, who ordered doctors to withhold food and water from his severely disabled wife Terri until she died, and his current wife Jodi were interviewed by NBC's Matt Lauer. Those exclusive interviews based on Schiavo's upcoming book "Terri: The Truth," are to be broadcast on "Dateline," Sunday, March 26 at 7 p.m.. Ironically, despite claiming to speak about 'the truth' concerning Terri, NBC's Lauer catches Schiavo in a serious distortion of truth as the interview begins.

In the interview, Michael responds to Lauer asking why he would not just divorce Terri - since he was already living with another woman with whom he had fathered children - leaving Terri with her own parents who were begging to be allowed to care for her. Michael answered, "When you sit in a courtroom and you hear her father say I'll cut her arms and her legs off, just to keep her alive, why would I want to put their daughter back in their care if he's gonna (sic) do that to her."

At this point Lauer interjects to say, "Let's make sure we understand that statement," with Schiavo trying to cut him off all the while, he adds, "I think the statement was, if she were to develop gangrene, and had to have limbs amputated, he would do that and okay that as long as he could still have her alive. That's a little different than the way you . . ." At this point Schiavo, who had been interrupting Lauer the whole way through his clarification interrupts definitively cutting off Lauer and changing the subject.

The interview is one sided, in that it presents only Michael's point of view and ends with Michael relating through his tears his last moments with Terri, going so far as to say, "She's up there praising me right now... and saying thank you."

Lauer notes that the book is not about honouring Terri, but about settling some scores. To which Schiavo responds, "Oh yes it does."

At another point in the interview, Lauer asks, "People have often asked. Michael why didn't you divorce Terri, you were living with Jodi." Schiavo replies, "Why do I have to divorce Terri? Terri wasn't like a football- an inanimate object you pass back and forth. She was my wife. You mean because your wife gets sick, do you give her back?"

Asked about his decision to remove Terri's feeding tube despite the pleas of Americans, groups from around the world and even the Vatican, Schiavo said, "Yeah, well I guess when it all boiled down, I couldn't understand why these people were so passionate about my life... People are allowed to die every day. Feeding tubes are removed every day."

Schiavo will appear live on "Today," Monday, March 27, and with Jodi on Tuesday, March 28.

"Frankly I think the lot of you have gone off the deep end and you give conservatism a bad name"

Well, then, Rush, Laura Ingrahm, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Dennis Praeger, and Micahael Medved to name a few, must be helping us "nuts" along.

Whether or not there were some kooky elements of the conservative movement who supported continued life for Teri Schindler, it does NOT change the fact that position was a "mainstream" conservative position. As Bill Crystal on Fox News said, it wasn't even a close call.

Actually, the dehydration had atrophied her brain further, a fact not mentioned in the autopsy. It was also said that the autopsy could not prove that Terri was in coma.

Terri was severely disabled and became far more disabled because her husband discontinued rehabilitation, after winning close to a million dollar verdict in a malpractice case involving Terri. However, she was neither brain dead or in a coma. Her family was under no delusions that Terri was going to recover much further after ten years of neglect, even if they had been able to secure rehabilitative therapy.

Michael wouldn't give Terri's parents her dead body to bury.

Insisting she be cremated, he then wouldn't even give her ashes to her parents.

Michael was vindictive, vengeful and spiteful to Terri's family to the bitter end. No Terri is not smiling down from heaven upon Michael. How delusional and preposterous of him to even entertain such a ludicrous notion.

A bag of feces is still a bag of feces, even if it's packaged in a nice, pretty, flowered bag.
Pardon my animosity on this subject. Some things done in this world "just ain't right".

Frankly I think the lot of you have gone off the deep end and you give conservatism a bad name

Frankly, I think self-proclaimed "conservative" who doesn't hold with the pro-life principles of Ronald Wilson Reagan on the matter gives the movement an even worse name.

"I know there are many who sincerely believe that limiting the right of abortion violates the freedom of choice of the individual. But if the unborn child is a living entity, then there are two individuals, each with the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

President Ronald Reagan Conservative Political Action Conference (C-PAC) -February 18, 1983

Key words: "living entity" and the right to life."

Michael S. turns out to be even more of a scumbag than we thought previously....glad Matt Lauer brought that out.
Matt can't be all bad.

Even terminal patients get an ice chip. Jeb Bush didn't ever get Terri not one sliver of ice. For shame.

Jeb Bush did every thing he could possibly do within the law. I don't understand why you seem to be laying some ultimate blame on him. Why didn't you bust into the hospital and give her an ice chip? You would have gotten as far as Jeb Bush would have if he had tried.

After her death it is my understanding that an autopsy was done and the authorities determined that so much of her brain had turned to mush, that her parents' hopes were totally impossible.

After 2 weeks of dehydration, anyones brain would turn to mush.

Thanks for the ping. When I read the logic and compassion expressed on a thread like this I'm reminded of why I'm a pro-lifer. I love the way we think here. :-)

I'll wager that he gets a lot of flack wherever he goes.
Rarely is someone allowed to publically murder someone, then flaunt that murder.
I think your correct - he deserves it.
Can you imagine the idiot who watched him throw away his wife like a bag a garbage when she became inconvient for him; then was stupid enough to MARRY him? (His new wife)

Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
Everyone involved with her murder will share in the harvest...

Amazingly, Jodi says she admires him for sticking by Terri. I'm not sure what she thinks sticking by someone really means, but I can assure her that committing adultery and fathering illegitimate children is not exactly "sticking" by someone. It won't be long before Michael has another affair. What will Jodi think of him then?

Btw, Jodi (the new wife who Mikey opened up the insurance firm with... then sold), was in a terrible auto accident not that far off from when she met Mikey... any wagers down the line?

And this church calls itself Christian? I wonder what Father Pavone had to say about this "marriage"?

It will be sad but interesting to see if he finds a legal way to murder her and get her insurance money.

We know Michael's answer to his own question....No, you don't 'give her back' but rather "you kill her".
