[history]
Now hear this:
Thanks to John McCain, Free Republic will shut down tomorrow at high noon for 30 days. No non government approved electioneering messages may be transmitted over the internet for the 30 days immediately preceding a primary election.
That is all.
The above exercise was just a drill. But if John McCain has his way with his proposed rules for regulating political free speech on the internet, this is how we will be forced to operate in the coming election cycle and all election cycles in the future until we can get the unconstitutional McCain-Feingold act repealed.
Carthago delenda est
I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!
If the thought of losing your right to express yourself online makes you mad, it is high time you let Senator John McCain know how you feel.

When the issues are this important . . .
"Just" is not the fitting word.

"It seems like even the Bush loyalists have lost faith in Bush"
Not all! Instead of just talking about it, they may have been busy doing the same as me......writing letters and sending emails to every stinking critter in DC I could and copies to their home offices.
FYI: I for one was not aware that when President Bush became the POTUS that he was expected to don underwear with a big "S" turning him into Superman. He has had more on his plate since first taking office than the last five presidents put together.
This thread is about the weasel traitor McCain and how he's taking our 'First Amendment Rights' away from us and what we can do about it, not to toss the blame in another direction, so instead of whining and passing the blame why don't you put your energy some place where it would be more beneficial and send emails to your reps.

No sweat. Understand. Amen. Amen. Amen.
Have been lingering up from my past bedtime as well to try and bump this up as many times as I remotely fittingly can.
Great healing sleep to you and yours and God's best to each of you.
And may God preserve our Republic from the hideous onslaughts within as well as without.

McCain has three significant black marks against having his way, three melanomas! The media put a very positive spin on this, which is worth as much as the rest of their spin. From what was
then published on the stage of his third, the one from 2000 on his left temple, still could veto his plans, in my professional opinion.

30 days?????!!!!!
Well, that will give me time to clean for Passover.
Still, I'm going to have some awful withdrawal symptoms.

I just now saw Jim Robinson's post. I've skimmed through stuff, but have not been able to find the answer -- Is Free Republic going down in the next day or so? Somebody please save me time, considering it's 3:13 here! Thanks in advance.

No. It's not going down, barring unforseen events.
Jim is using the timing of the publishing of the law tomorrow or Monday, rather, to alert us to the possibility that every election we WOULD have to shut FR down for 30-60 days IF THE LAW AND REGULATIONS THEREFROM ARE ALLOWED TO STAND.
He wants us all to contact all our elected idiots and insure they know our outrage and how crucial it is for them to get a brain and revoke, repeal and otherwise trash this hideous UNConstitutional law.
AT least, that's my paraphrasing of what I think is Jim's intent. He can correct me, if I'm wrong.
The links for doing such contacting are in the thread in several places.
Be at peace but also be energized enough to phone, fax, and email energetically and very pointedly.

I think we want to promote a Yes vote on H.R. 1606, but first, get it out of Committee. McCain and ilk have maneuvered to keep it stuck. H.R. 1606 is the antidote to to the CFR duct tape.

The only thing we owe that staggeringly incompetent former pilot and now (shudder) Senator is a nitric acid enema.
And, yes, you may quote me freely.
