The Dems tried a draft scare in an effort to take the White House back in '04. Needless to say, there was no draft. So they're trying to revive the scare by proposing one themselves. The DUmmies are voting "yes" because they believe that "It's the only thing that will wake up Americans to the prospect of 20 years of war."

Freepers, charge!

Or better yet, renew the draft, as requested by the Dems, and give them the blame.

the anti-war movement in the 60's was really an anti-draft movement. they know they won't get much traction this time around without a draft.

I remember this one - Rock the Vote, the "nonpartisan" MTV group sent out nearly 1 million fake draft cards to young voters.

"It's the 1960s/70s I swear! Bush is Nixon, Iraq is vietnam, America is bad, communism is good, let's all hug our enemies."

Geeeez, when will these people go away? Thank God my generation hasn't followed suit (yet).

Seriously, these people haven't had an idea in decades.

A-yup. He wants a draft in order to erode support for the Iraq war and the President. Whether or not it is necessary, and whether he or the President moves to make it happen, is irrelevant. What's important to him is that a Dem is sworn into the office of the Presidency in January 2009.

Yes it was. Too many people don't realize this, or they have selective memory to suit their political desires.

I voted YES. I want these stooopid bastards (Rangel) to make this a campaign issue and lose. Personally, from a military perspective I think the draft is unwise. My brother enlisted right out of college in 1968 and he dealt with draftees. He had "severe disdain" (putting it mildly) for these lazy men. They had no sense of pride, no commitment to the assignment or the objective. In some cases they jeopordized the mission.

Hope I don't get flamed for voting yes. It's just my strategery that made me do it.

Well, Rangel is hoping that people hear "there is a bill in Congress to reinstate the draft" and don't bother to think too hard about who put it there. As far as strategery goes, the move would be to call Rangel on the carpet and put this straight to a vote.

We could make this technique into a new verb: Murtha-ing. As in, "Mr. Rangel, you got Murtha'd!" That move is the Congressional Republicans' to make, and they'd probably be more willing to make it if poll numbers showed the American people to be opposed to a draft.

There is one reason, and only one reason that Rangel wants the draft re-instituted.

Not as a tool to increase the readiness of America's military.

Not to spread the "pain" of military service to rich kids.

It is simply a tool to destroy the military and prevent the United States from projecting influence throughout the world. Rangel, and all liberals, cannot stomach the fact that America is the most powerful nation on the face of the earth. He and all liberals want us to be just as weak as the Europeans.
