The astounding sense of entitlement of some GTA commuters has left police shaking their heads after a woman was found sneaking onto the high-occupancy lanes with a fake baby in the back.
"She looked like the cat who swallowed the canary," OPP Sgt. Cam Woolley said of the woman who was pulled over yesterday. "She told the officer it normally works."
STIFF ARMS
Woolley said the cop was patrolling the HOV lanes of Hwy. 404 near Sheppard Ave. yesterday when he spotted an Intrepid whizz by and noticed the baby's arms seemed unnaturally stiff.
Not being sure, the officer decided to take a closer look and pulled the driver over.
The odd-looking child --Woolley likened it to a cartoon character from the show South Park -- was nothing more than a hooded jacket stuffed with clothing and strapped into an old car seat.
"We should have given her another ticket because the fake baby she had in there was too light to be in a forward-facing child seat," Woolley said.
"You can bet we'll be taking a closer look at all the babies we see in the next little while."
In fact, cops had expected to see similar scams turn up as soon as the popular HOV lanes -- which give commuters on sections of Hwys. 404 and 403 a swifter ride downtown -- opened last fall.
$110, 3 POINTS
"We're still writing a few hundred tickets each month," Woolley said of those abusing the lanes.
Cops think the woman ticketed yesterday, a 39-year-old Aurora resident, has children but none who need a car seat.
She faces a $110 fine and three demerit points.
This is why you buy animatronic babies--she was just trying to do things cheap and that's what happens.
I lived in Atlanta for five years before I ever used the HOV lanes, while carting my children in the backseat. For some reason, I thought the lanes were for commuters, and that children didn't count. All that time wasted...
Yeah, I'm sure that's the reason. She should definitely have a baby just so she can use the HOV lane.
HOV lanes are a disgrace.
I agree. That is what they are for, to get other drivers off the roads. The baby wasn't going to take up any space in the normal lanes.
lol
'Hello, officer! Meet Kenny. He doesn't talk very well.'
I never want to hear from liberals about "rights" - at best they confuse them with what are only privileges, and at worst - they love taking all our rights away. Tying it in here, the fact you "have to have" a baby seat is outrageous. The fact you can be fined and molested for not having a baby seat - or the "correct kind" is asinine. And of course, they're trying to increase the age of child seats; ridiculous and a BOON to all the baby companies (whom liberals hate - right?).
Why?
I agree, what's the point of giving the advantage of carpooling if the other person you are 'sharing a ride' with is under the age to even drive???
Absolutely!
They are public roads.
Apparently, some "public" are more equal than others.
I knew a pregnant woman in Michigan who was speeding on a two lane highway, trying to get to a store or gas station where she could have a rest stop.
She got a ticket.
She went to court, and pled her case before the judge, saying that she was pregnant and that it is harmful to a baby if the mother holds her bladder for too long.
The judge was annoyed, but let the woman off. It pays to be pregnant in his jurisdiction. (Or have a husband who is a partner at a big Detroit lawfirm.)
Beats trying to join and work with the sane citizens in eliminating these bureaucratic totalitarians who keep making up laws and rules to control our lives.
Does that mean she was tested and found to be HOV Negative?

LOL!
That'll be fixed with "light rail" dontcha know.
You do realize that the "animal cops" are by and large non-profit organizations given some enforcement power for animal-related crimes, and most are funded independently, right? Do you also realize the staggeringly high correlation between violence towards / abuse of animals and violence towards people?
LOL:)
