Canadian Receives Only 3 1/2 Years for “Worst Imaginable Forms of Child Pornography”

EDMONTON, March 22, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – An Edmonton man who videoed himself sexually abusing his step-children so he could distribute the material to other pedophiles has been handed a three and a half year sentence.

Carl Treleaven was part of an international ring of child molesters and pedophiles whose crimes were described last week by US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales as “the worst imaginable forms of child pornography.” The material, transmitted from user to user via an on-line chat room often streamed live acts with children – one as young as 18 months.

A Calgary-based child advocate and herself a victim of childhood sexual abuse, Linda Pushor, criticized the light sentence. While Treleaven will be in jail at most 3 1/2 years, his victims will suffer the effects of the abuse for life, she said. Pushor advocates lifetime in prison. “It’s my firm belief that we can humanely incarcerate people that are a clear and present danger to our children and keep them from hurting other children,” she said, as reported by the Edmonton Sun. 

Canadian child advocacy group Beyond Borders president Rosalind Prober agreed that 3 1/2 years is a slap on the wrist. “What happens to this guy when his sentence is over?” she asked. “If you valued children, this guy would never be let out of jail.” Prober argued that a “hard-wired pedophile” like Treleaven is a likely candidate to re-offend.

You'd have to be careful to ensure that they were actually guilty.

If someone spams you and you just delete the e-mail normally, a skilled person can retrieve that data.

If you've gotten some unwanted porn spam, and just said "yuck" and deleted it, it may still be on your hard disk and retrievable.

You have to value life to value children -
Our whole society is so disposable now- I can get on such a soapbox about Gen 1:1 - you either believe in the special God breathed creation of mankind and thus the incredible intrinsic value of Human Life - or you go down the road we see daily - I guess I'm glad to see it still surprises and stuns people that there is little value to childhood anymore.

You have to deliberately download and transmit the stuff. Mere possession is a crime. And most of us don't troll sites that exploit and abuse children in unimaginable ways. They're off-limits to decent souls.

Well, the Canadian courts probably figured the guy was just pursuing an alternate lifestyle and, since it wasn't a Christian lifestyle, he deserved leniency.

The problem with the "spam" excuse is that these monsters don't have one or two deleted messages or pictures but hundreds of pictures, if not thousands. Not just a couple of KBs (like the size of a floppy disk) but hard drives filled with this venomous poison.

I would differentiate between child pornography, which is dreadful enough, and molesting of children to make child pornography, which frankly deserves the death sentence, in my opinion.

I used to oppose capital punishment, though things like this make me really like the idea. Particularly when you read about sentences such as this.

Execution is the only thing that will stop this foul deluge of child destruction.

Anyone who gets off on viewing child pornography is as guilty as those who make it.

I am so beyond disgusted at the lack of punishment meted out by judges who, by their very leniency, are accessories after the fact.
