Is Chris Matthews making a profound point about self-determination and democracy, or has he gone off an end deeper than even Cindy Sheehan has so far ventured into?
Discussing the Iraqi insurgency with Pat Buchanan, Matthews had this to say:
"We know it for a fact that the country is about 20% Kurd, 20% Sunni and about 60% Shia. In any democratic process you put together, the Shia will run the show. Here's the question: who are we to say that the minority group, the Sunnis, shouldn't rebel? Who are we to say they shouldn't try to rebel against the majority of the people?"

Hardball/NewsBusters ping to the Today show list.
MSDNC almost makes CNN look patriotic
FYI
Perhaps his show should be changed to Goofball.
"Who are we?" Chris? We're the ones who, in the process of protecting ourselves, happened to free tens of millions from a dictator. THAT's who we are. That you can't grasp that says an awful lot about you.
What exactly was Matthews opinion of the white minority rule in South Africa in the 80s.</p>
I was just talking about this on another thread

He is REALLY mad that we are calling the people blowing up civilians in Iraq, terrorists
He keeps asking why does the President keep calling them that
Says it's misleading .. that terrorists or people who go in and attack to change the will of the people
HELLO ... does he listen to anything he says??

IMO - He doesn't want to word terrorists used .. because then he would have to admit that Iraq is part of the WOT like the president said it was
Now he has a guy on saying the Iraq army is a joke

Hope Buchannan was wearing his face-shield. That comment from Chrissy was probably kinda messy....
How about the ancient right of the victor.
Right, sure, who are we to say the Taliban shouldn't have the right to the kind of society they want. Hissy is insane.
Hmmmm.
I say we are right and good that it is being done.
Well his premise is wrong because many of these people are terrorists not "insurgents". But even giving him the premise, anyone with a brain would know it's wrong for anyone to kill anyone for any reason. That rules out Chris Matthews who apparently doesn't have one in making such a stupid statement.
What right have we got to go into another country and tell those other people what to do?"Buchanan was happy to agree: "We have no right."
Matthews's question is a valid one. The answer is "we are the purveyors of a higher moral value in this case." If islam wants to join the world and show modernity where we can improve...we should welcome its suggestions and weight them in the balance.
And as regards Buchanan. He just wants to pull the curtain tight around 1950-ish Baltimore. I suggest we sign his commitment papers and send him to the farm.
And to pay homage to a premier writer of taglines, here's to the following freeper and his tag line...
Brad Cloven (Why did Allah create free will and then demand submission? Wouldn't robots have been easier?)
The previous post is partially in your honor!
Who am I to condemn the insurgency? A fellow countryman of the many Americans who've been killed by them.
Head shaking BUMP.
Before he said this, he changed the definition of terrorist to insurgent so I it take he's a supporter of terrorist which is a crime.
