"Intelligent design" legislation in New York reborn

Assembly Bill 8036 is back. Originally introduced on May 3, 2005, the bill would have required that "all pupils in grades kindergarten through twelve in all public schools in the state ... receive instruction in both theories of intelligent design and evolution." It also charged New York's commissioner of education to assist in developing curricula and local boards of education to provide "appropriate training and curriculum materials ... to ensure that all aspects of the theories, along with any supportive data, are fully examined through such course of study."
NCSE previously reported that the bill died in committee when the New York State Assembly's legislative session ended on June 24, 2005. But apparently not: on January 4, 2006, the bill was again referred to the House Committee on Education, where, after two amendments, it remains. The main difference is that the bill now would require pupils to receive instruction in "all aspects of the controversy surrounding evolution and the origins of man," including but not limited to "intelligent design and information effectively challenging the theory of evolution."

Strange. Appears to be a catholic, but we've been told Catolics are not Christians. So why's he doin' this Creationist stuff?
Curiouser and curiouser.
To: furball4paws
Creationism is to science what "The Da Vinci Code" is to Christianity.

Gentle reminder: Now hear this: No personal attacks (title of thread posted 15 March 2006 by Jim Robinson).
Thanks for posting that. Mindless Bible-belters such as myself appreciate your call to civility.

Can we personally attack ourselves? I mean I'm a triple sided idiot with a clear path to doom and destruction, an idiot, a royal creep and a f(*^&^%#^*%$&#(&. Surely the mods won't find that too awful.

Let the CRIDers try to explain why their myth is superior.
That is easy.
The one with the nicest churches, the entire human calendar set by the day of the death of His son, the one with the best art and sculpture, the one that preserved the work of the ancients, etc.
Most importantly, the one that believes in good things like the Ten commandments and loving thy fellow man.
The one that created science in its current form.
The one that put the man on the moon and developed the atomic bomb.
You know, that one.

I guess so. That moron Das Outsider said you could--but what does he know?
Considering all of the other shenanigans one can get up to--and get away with!--it doesn't seem that self-deprecation is a suspension worthy offense--but one can always try!

Paging Gilbert Ryle. Please make an appearance and tell these folks they are making a category mistake (like comparing oranges and fruit, for those not up on their philosophy).

This will come as a surprise to the non-Christians in the world. You do know that Christianity is a minority religion in the world, right?

I think the use of the term intelligent design is appropriate. Whether or not intelligent design existed before the "dawn of man" or not, it exists now and they teach it in school already. It has names such as biochemistry and genetic engineering. When Monsanto creates a type of corn with a vaccine naturally embedded in its genetic code, they did not do it by evolution. They did it by intelligently looking at the laws that govern the structure of living things and "designing" new variants. They did not put it in a field and wait 100 million years and hope a solution presented itself. Intelligent design is here today. This is not a subject for the past alone. Those who refuse to see this are the modern equivelent of the Flat Earth Society. There is no religion in this. This is what we in the 21st century like to call Science.

No one questions the intelligence of man and his ability to rearrange things for his benefit. But the ID movement is not about Man, it's about an Intelligent Designer, who can only be God for the creation of life and speciation. Equating God with Man's genetic dabblings (or space aliens)only demeans God.

So the one that is the most aesthetic is "correct?" That's good to know. I've always favored the Olympian gods: the Parthenon.

I am not aware of a creation story that led directly to any of the above. Moreover, I am not aware how leading to the above would demonstrate the validity of said story.
