OCALA, Fla. -- A Florida judge said a plea deal for a Tampa teacher accused of having sex with a 14-year-old would "erode public confidence in" schools.
Marion County Circuit Judge Hale Stencil has rejected the plea deal for Debra Lafave, 25. The judge said the deal would undermine the credibility of the criminal justice system.
Prosecutors and the defense lawyer had urged the judge to accept the deal for the good of the boy. A psychiatrist told the judge the boy suffered extreme anxiety because of intense media coverage of the case and does not want to testify.
Lafave was charged in two counties where she's accused of having sex with the student.
A judge in Hillsborough County accepted a plea deal there in November and sentenced Lafave to three years of house arrest and seven years' probation. She pleaded guilty in November to two counts of lewd and lascivious battery for having sex with the boy in a classroom and her home.
I respect your feelings.
But I believe in treating boys and girls differently, when they are different.
And they *are* different about sex. If this were my son, I would not in any way consider him a 'victim'.
I just showed my 16 year old daughter the pic of the teacher.
She said any 14 y/o boy that "wouldn't" ought to have his hetero license revoked.
I am a guy. I don't tell my wife certain things, that is true. But since I am a guy I am offended by being told that I'm out of my league.

You're absolutely right! And yes, I did raise 3 fine boys, now in their 20's who are more interested in their work and school and establishing their careers than screwing any girl who walks in their pathway. I made dang sure they knew their lives would be wrecked if they ever got anyone pregnant. Boys can learn to say no too. But you're right, this heinous little beatch needs some jail time to cool her off.

Certianly not 100% of the time, but I'm lead to believe that that's the way women are. They regret the ones that didn't "work out".
But guys, not so much.
And I don't remember any pairing in school of teachers/students. But school was 30 years ago for me.
I agree, we've set the age of consent for boys higher. But again, I just don't see how it's possible to call this boy a 'victim'.
Imagine the ordeal this youngster had to endure to have sex with her. He'll now spend the next forty years trying to repeat it. ;-)
Interesting hypothesis.. this is more complicated. Now it expands to 1. Is the teacher hot? 2. Is the student hot? 3. Do they let guys watch?

In your world there is no way this kid can be a victim because:
1. She was attractive
2. He was a male
and we all know (you're projecting again) that guys are different than gals. One of the biggest differences is how we feel about sex.
What I'm reading between the lines here is that, in your world, the "guys" can't keep their zippers up and the "gals" that don't require them to will be "fondly remembered".
Sounds to me like a pretty shallow world, I'll think stick with mine.

You're arguing from the POV as a father of a daughter and as a man with attitudes and ideas about what is sexual and correct for different genders.
I'm willing to be the farm that if I talked to the wives and daughters of your two friends, I'd hear a different story of behaviors, attitudes, respect etc. Again, I'm a ghost looking in from the other side of the window.
As a woman,
I know at 14 I would have been just like that boy if the right teacher had given me a second look. Just keep in mind what the root of all this 'boy/girl/good/bad sex' is.
It's not about sex at all.
That has not been my experience, personally.
I agree that 14 year old boys should be discouraged from having sex, cuz of the risk of pregnancy, etc.
But when a 14 year old *does* have sex, I don't agree he's a victim. I think he's a perp. He knew what he was doing. He did it willingly. If this were my son, he'd be in trouble for messing with a married woman.
I'd not consider him a 'victim' at all.
