Archbishop: Stop teaching creationism

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, has stepped into the controversy between religious fundamentalists and scientists by saying that he does not believe that creationism - the Bible-based account of the origins of the world - should be taught in schools. Giving his first, wide-ranging, interview at Lambeth Palace, the archbishop was emphatic in his criticism of creationism being taught in the classroom, as is happening in two city academies founded by the evangelical Christian businessman Sir Peter Vardy and several other schools.
"I think creationism is ... a kind of category mistake, as if the Bible were a theory like other theories ... if creationism is presented as a stark alternative theory alongside other theories I think there's just been a jarring of categories ... My worry is creationism can end up reducing the doctrine of creation rather than enhancing it," he said.

Given his past behavior, not to mention more than one slide into paganism, I don't know that he believes that.

I can certainly see his point, but the whole purpose of teaching it in schools must be to offset the strictly-evolutionary theories taught as the ONLY way. If creationism can't be taught in schools, evolution should get the boot as well.

It wasn't the Archbishop, at least I don't think it was, but I remember someone in the CoE stating he didn't believe in the divinity of Christ a couple of years ago. Didn't see how he could be a priest in the Church anymore. Wonder whatever happened to that guy

Ah so he is Archbishop in name only.... Glad it is on the record.

What kind of babble is that? I know there are good arguments on both sides of this issue, but if anyone can discern a coherent thought in the above statement by the Archbishop, please let me know.
