They also demand 6 weeks' vacation and a 35 hour work week, correct?

The "job measure" would allow employers the ability to fire new employees any time, for any reason, in the first two years of employment.

These youths don't want to live in the real world. They are rioting for lifetime employement.

France is a complete disaster.

The poster child for weak-kneed socialism.

The plan, known as the "new jobs contract," is meant to increase employment among less privileged youths by making the labor market more flexible. However, it does away with classic protections. Students fear the jobs law will leave youths more vulnerable than before, and eat away at long-standing measures that protect employees as France primes itself to better compete in a globalized world.

It finally dawned on the French that because of legal protections, it has been near impossible for any French employer to fire anyone. DeVillepin's proposal was to remove some of these legal impediments, such that employers would feel free to hire, so yes, the French are actually rioting over a measure which would tend to HELP employment.

They already have that. The ritoers are protesting any change.

France is stuck in socialist economics and any change to become competitive is met with a violent reaction as we are seeing now.

I've worked at lots of jobs with a probationary period. Two years seems a bit excessive but with their unemployment rate it seems to be the best way to get the best employees.

Rioters aren't students....they're socialist commie scum who expect a free ride.

Police blamed the violence on fringe groups of radicals and anarchists -- and petty criminals who broke into a jewelry store. The students' anger focuses the job contract that would allow employers to fire young workers in their first two years on a job -- without saying why. But the protests may reflect broader discontent with the conservative government and the direction France is taking as globalization forces changes.

Mr. Villepin's government believes the "new jobs contract" will whittle down a 23% jobless rate among youths -- which rises to 50% in depressed suburbs.

"The French government by it's response to Muslim riots "

How about the media response to the muslim rioting? I don't remember any coverage like this.

To the French Riot Police:

They’re out to get you, better leave while you can
Don’t wanna be a boy, you wanna be a man
You wanna stay alive, better do what you can
So beat it, just beat it!!!

Beat it,
beat it,
beat it,
beat it,
no one wants to be defeated!!!
