Willie, these are the very same people who hate so-called "globalism" [a.k.a. the "faceless capitalism" that A. Pole mentions - whatever that really means] and who seek workers rights and competition protections in their domestic markets. You laugh now, but when you watch Lou Dobbs explain to you what these riots are really about, you'll be purchasing a plane ticket and buying your kerosene & torches.

Decoded, it says "help us" we need your strong input as a devoted savior who knows how to handle these kinds of situations better than we.

We Americans have had labor unrest, and we condemn child sweatshops and forced prison labor.Actually, Americans are happy to buy Chinese or other foreign products made in child sweatshops or prisons as long as it's "Always the Lowest Price..Always!"
If we really believed in basic human and labor rights, American corporations and consumers wouldn't be enriching the brutal, murdering dictators who run China.
If we weren't such hypocrites, we'd be ashamed to buy goods made by millions of poor people enslaved by their own unelected government.
It's a national disgrace for America to be pouring billions into the world's largest and most pervasively evil dictatorship.

Jack Welch was brilliant. His policies of measuring performance, rewarding achievement, and terminating the underperforming 10-20% were very effective. And spurred growth. France is not GE. There is not good corporate governance in France, nor is there autocratic leadership. Welch could not even help France today. As a nation-state, France must go through these spasms of further economic contraction; and elect accountable leadership. I wish them luck. Because history indicates that the French can go a wee bit "over the top" when implementing social change.

So in a nut shell the French students want to work less, make more money, and never get fired. That's just about it, j. Makes perfect sense to me...... ;)

When out of touch politicians tinker with people's livelihood, people get testy. I know enough already to realize that it's not about 'tinkering with people's livelihood.' It's an attempt (meager, albeit) to help France's flailing economy and make them competitive in the global economy.
These kids need to ignore the communist instigators and get back to their homework.

It's an attempt (meager, albeit) to help France's flailing economy and make them competitive in the global economy.Absolutely agreed! I called this "round two" in their economic riots. I did not state that these are legitimate riots. It is rather odd that the French police actions seem to be less restrained during this round. Round three should be a real hum-dinger.

Actually, much of that money gets repatriated back to the United States when the Chinese government purchases U.S. debt with it. The same debt that becomes loanable funds to Americans who purchase homes, automobiles, and other big ticket items or loanable funds to start or expand businesses with it. If you've done any of these aforementioned things with borrowed money at very low rates of interest, you'd be a hypocrite too; albeit one with a bleeding heart.
