March 18, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - Rudy Giuliani will soon make a pilgrimage to the politically potent state of Iowa - the first stop in the presidential nominating process - fueling further speculation that he's eyeing a 2008 bid, The Post has learned.
The official reason for Giuliani's trip is to star at a May 1 "Get Motivated" leadership seminar that's already being advertised in The Des Moines Register.
But the trip to Iowa, site of the first presidential nominating caucus, has much bigger symbolic value for Giuliani. "It tells us, at a minimum, that he's looking to keep his options open - and, at a maximum, [that] he's looking to interview people to run his Iowa operation," said Republican strategist Rich Galen, who helped run Iowa for President Bush's dad.

Either way, Republicans lose.
We gain nothing with either Giuliani or McCain in office.
Three months ago the thought of Romney was enough to upset my stomach given his RINO past, but if he couples a conservative platform with his impressive nongovernmental career and his charsima, he could be a contender.
How convenient.
The charge of flip-flopper stuck to Kerry, regardless of the times we live in.

And what matters to many is proven accomplishments and not mere rhetoric.

We heard that for 8 years on DU and Move On .org. Hear on FR the mantra was "CHARACTER MATTERS". For some here "character matters" is more than a talking point to be used against the other party.

I agree. I think that Romney is much more palatable to most conservatives than Rudy or McCain. The Massachusetts 'thing' still bothers me though. How could ANY conservative EVER get elected in that state?
We gain nothing? Who is we?
We Republicans or we Americans?
Although I am a Republican, even if by any criteria you choose to judge that Republicans lose anyway and there is no difference between a Democrat or McCain or Guiliani winning, I believe the Nation, all of us, would lose with a Democrat win and would gain much with a Guiliani win.
To me there is a hell of difference. And I hope it's the same for all clear thinking voters.
Bush will leave a huge mess and it will take proven competence to at least attempt a clean up. The right words on abortion will mean very little in the scheme of things.
Sadly, to run Giuliani, we would have to require him to be two-faced on the issue of illegal immigration, as one poster admitted already on this thread.
How we could sell Giuliani as any better than Hillary escapes me.
First of all I don't like McPain . I read your link about Romney and then went to Rich Lowry's real article and read two totally different takes on Romney. Lowry clearly stated that Romney has locked horns with Liberals on social issues. You need to move beyond that little site and not read people who twist what Lowry really wrote about Romney .
you have a point, but Romney is incredibly well-spoken, charismatic, and likeable...he can and will easily overcome the MA stigma.
Mike Pence is my first choice, but Romney or Giuliani would make a good President. If Giuliani wins the primary, he is guaranteed to win the general, and has a good shot at VP if he doesn't win the primary. I'll vote for whoever wins the primary.
I'm a Southern evangelical social conservative who is sick and tired of the nonstop spamming and vitriole from the self-appointed 'voices of pro-life conservativism' Pharisees that swarm to these threads. Their posts far exceed their numbers, and Giuliani (or Romney to a lesser extent) would add many more moderates and economic conservatives votes than they would lose of the social conservatives. Let the bitter ranting 1% go pout somewhere else. I say good riddance, they only give the rest of us social conservatives a bad name and reinforce ugly stereotypes. Most people don't vote on a single issue, but weigh several.

Well Romney has had to carefully negotiate through the deep blue waters of Mass .He has done very well and as he shows his true Conservative colors I don't think the Mass " stink " will stay for long .
Yeah, what's a little cancer between friends...
It's gonna be Allen and probably Rice as Veep, Rudy is just too liberal. I just hope that we get at least one, and preferably two more SCOTUS nominees before Nov 08.
(replacing two liberal ones)
It isnt just his pro-abortion stance; although thats one of the issues I will not compromise on. It is also his anti-Second Amendment stance (another issue I will not compromise on). And it is his lifestyle, diddling his girlfriend in Gracie Mansion, just as one example.
How many Rudi supporters were raising hell about Clinton getting lewinskys in the White House? Are you ready for a Republican who does that?
But as I said, character does matter. Im still optimistic enough to believe that there are enough Republicans who believe that to keep Rudi from getting the nomination. We know character doesnt matter to Democrats but for 8 years we claimed it did to Republicans. It looks like well get to see if that was all talk or real conviction.
Both.

Why should I vote for him?
So far, I see nothing but romantic notions of his personality as the reason. Sorry, but voters these days are too sophisticated to vote for the Giuliani the Myth in the face of his liberal public record.
Prior to 9-11, Giuliani suffered a sagging popularity. The boost since then is akin to the boost Bush gained in the aftermath of the attack.
But as we are seeing with Bush, such a bubble is bound to burst. The public has a short memory. Voters are fickle.
The support Giuliani gained from 9-11 alone is not enough to sustain him throughout the rigors of a campaign. He does not hold up to scrutiny, particularly in this internet age, when the stakes on so many social issues are higher than ever.
Versus what? McCain? A wife who should of been in jail for getting prescription drugs with a forged prescription. Gimme a break.
