Rudy's '08 Hint In Iowa
New York Post ^ | March 18, 2006 | Deborah Orin

Posted on 03/18/2006 9:38:27 AM PST by UncleSamUSA

March 18, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - Rudy Giuliani will soon make a pilgrimage to the politically potent state of Iowa - the first stop in the presidential nominating process - fueling further speculation that he's eyeing a 2008 bid, The Post has learned.

The official reason for Giuliani's trip is to star at a May 1 "Get Motivated" leadership seminar that's already being advertised in The Des Moines Register.

But the trip to Iowa, site of the first presidential nominating caucus, has much bigger symbolic value for Giuliani. "It tells us, at a minimum, that he's looking to keep his options open - and, at a maximum, [that] he's looking to interview people to run his Iowa operation," said Republican strategist Rich Galen, who helped run Iowa for President Bush's dad.

He is relatively liberal on some social issues (or at least more liberal than many would like)

"relatively"? Is that a new synonym of exceedingly?

but he is a STRONG leader, he is very strong on national defense,

How do you come to this conclusion?

he is a tough law and order former prosecutor,

OK, but rounding up Italian-American mobsters is not on a par with fighting international terrorism.

and he is articulate, a strong speaker and debater

He lisps.

and he can ABSOLUTELY Defeat the Hildebeest in 2008.

No he can't because he'll never be supported in the south, non-coastal western and plains states. Nominate Giuliani and you give the Hillary the oval office.

Gulliani is kick ass all the way to the Whithouse.
And I'm gonna love ever minute. From the wailing of the Allen supporters to hillary losing by 40 states.

I don't think that will be the case with Romney. I think we will be pleasantly surprised as he gets away from Mass more and out into the rest of the country. I could be wrong , but I have a feeling that he is more conservative than most of the other potential candidates and it is going to serve him well .

Spoke too fast.

"Sorry Rudy - you can't believe in infanticide and win the Republican nomination.

Oh, and how about you cheating on your wife? Um, that's not going to go so well."

AND! On top of that he's GAY?....and pro-abortion?

Schools Out! Fagetaboutit! Rudy! Stay Home!

By '08 he will be Rudy who?. Bank on it. He has only a little bit better chance of winning a GOP primary than Bernie sanders or Barney frank do.

he is a tough law and order former prosecutor,

He was an out-of-control, headline grabbing, government thug. He pioneered the trend of using the weight of the government to imprison the unpopular (Leona Helmsley, Michael Milken).

And how many cab drivers died so he could suck up to Danny Glover?

There's nothing "conservative" about this kind of "law and order". He's Janet Reno without the testosterone.

I always suspicioned that Rudy's withdrawal from the Senate race was more than he admitted. He wouldn't (our couldn't) face Hillary in that election, for some reason. The prostate surgery was a convenient excuse.

Kerry had a similar operation not long before his 04 run for the Presidency; it didn't seem to prohibit Kerry.

If Rudy did have some ulterior reason for not wanting to face Hillary in the Senate race, it will be interesting to see if he would actually challenge her for the Presidency.

Two New Yorkers in a showdown for the WH might be a bit much for the rest of the country to stomach.

I know that i'm going to take alot of heat for talking up Romney , but just because he's from Mass shouldn't automatically disqualify him .

Time for a Yankee skinflint.

Maybe they have thrown him in as a "stalking horse" to make Mitt (Mitt?) Romney look that much better.

Romney is a "Pretend Republican" with a handsome face and a too-glib comeback for every question asked that make you feel somehow "cheated" every time you witness his "act"...an empty suit.

Where are the real leaders? Where are the solid All American Men?

We got to find someone until President Rice comes on board in '12.

Condi is a pro-abort, Davos Republican. The stock of that group has tanked recently. How is she going to get in?

Gun-grabbing, pro-abort, pro-rumpranger.

Dead cinch for the GOP nomination.

LOL, but it does!  Perhaps it's only a stigma, but it is enough.  You see, he was put in office by the same folks who put in Kennedy, Kerry, Dukakis, ad neauseum.

The country as a whole does not trust the MA voter to do the right thing, JMO.

Don't sweat the small stuff, Grasshopper.

She will change her mind on abortion.

Then she'll invite either Kathleen Harris or Michelle Malkin to be her running mates and all your problems vanish.

See? Quite simple.

Ok that's one objection removed. But Repub primary candidates need to demonstrate a loyalty, not to Davos, but to their own country.

The ports uproar showed a disconnect between the offical Republican economic platform and what the people (who are trying to find jobs, make a living) experience.

Grasshopper. Your linear self-willed thought has your undergarments in knots.

Voters vote on "essences"... not particulars.

President Rice is an inexorable force.

The Flow with which we are destined to go.
