Hypocrisy! They quote unnamed sources all the time in their articles. What are the NYT/WaPo NSA articles based on? IMHO these sources are just as viable as the NYT/WaPo 'unnamed' sources.

Not only ahead of the curve, jveritas is the originator of this story having done the first translation. The story then exploded on the blogs, and now the MSM is forced into covering it. The reason I posted this is the disclaimer ABC put with the story. They don't like this. No sir, no maam, they don't like having to cover the story one bit.

March 16, 2006 — Following are the ABC News Investigative Unit's summaries of four of the nine Iraqi documents from Saddam Hussein's government, which were released by the U.S. government Wednesday.
The documents discuss Osama bin Laden, weapons of mass destruction, al Qaeda and more.

"Osama bin Laden and the Taliban"
Document dated Sept. 15, 2001
An Iraqi intelligence service document saying that their Afghani informant, who's only identified by a number, told them that the Afghani Consul Ahmed Dahastani claimed the following in front of him:
That OBL and the Taliban are in contact with Iraq and that a group of Taliban and bin Laden group members visited Iraq.
That the U.S. has proof the Iraqi government and "bin Laden's group" agreed to cooperate to attack targets inside America.
That in case the Taliban and bin Laden's group turn out to be involved in "these destructive operations," the U.S. may strike Iraq and Afghanistan.
That the Afghani consul heard about the issue of Iraq's relationship with "bin Laden's group" while he was in Iran.
At the end, the writer recommends informing "the committee of intentions" about the above-mentioned items. The signature on the document is unclear.

THE "EDITOR" IS OBVIOUSLY A LIBERAL WEENIE.
The MSM wants to slide this in under the radar. If the Bush Administration, and RNC let's them. This is the penalty for having hung on to this information for so long because of its alleged "actionable intelligence" value, which I can't see from reading the story. I just loved the "limited evidentiary value" statement. Jamie Gorelick must be working for ABC News. If this document mentioned Bush Administration cooperation with Saddam you could bet it would be treated like solid gold. The only real issue is the "provenance". If someone wishes to say that the Bush Administration manufactured the document, let them prove it, but if the this document is genuine, then it clearly indicates that at some levels Iraqi intelligence had reason to believe that the Saddam Hussein government had contact with UBL and Al Qaeda. That flies in the face of ABC News, Hollywood and Michael Moore "conventional wisdom". No credible (or "fair and balanced) news organization should let this slide just because ABC News doesn't think it would stand up in a US Court. You've got to wonder if this wasn't what Dick Cheney had in mind when he said there was other information that pointed to a Saddam/Al Qaeda link.
If they do, then Freepers need to start posting it on every message board and blog we can find.
And Big Media act with impunity when questioned about their own 'confidential' sources.
When can we expect the RNC and Republican Leadership to push the truth to the surface and educate the sheeple?
You got that right. Amazing.
But they'll ballyhoo about and wave in the air any document that slams the Bush Administration "from unamed sources".............
Perhaps they would consider it more authoritative had it been written in Microsoft Word 35 years ago.
