The threat, contained in a letter dated 2002 and newly declassified by the U.S. military, shows the intimidation Arab countries face if they cooperate with the West. The letter came the same year the Emirates turned over to the United States a suspected mastermind of the deadly bombing of the USS Cole.
The UAE has kept making arrests, including the detention and handover to Pakistan in 2004 of a Pakistani suspect who allegedly trained thousands of al-Qaida fighters.
However, the issue of whether the country does enough to fight terrorism was at the center of a dispute in the United States over a Dubai company's plans since abandoned to run U.S. ports.
The group that issued the 2002 threat, calling itself "Qaida al-Jihad," or the Qaida (Base) of Holy War, also said in its letter that it had infiltrated the UAE's "security, censorship and monetary agencies, along with other agencies that should not be mentioned."
"You are an easier target than (the Americans); your homeland is exposed to us," the letter said. "There are many vital interests that will hurt you if we decided to harm them, especially since you rely on shameless tourism in your economic income."

Blocking this deal was not 'conservative'.
It was a private business deal, and blocking it required the use of govt power to stop the deal when no evidence of risk existed.
That's a clearly liberal position -- govt telling business what to do based on fear and "feelings".
Is the poll broken down by Emirate? What were the results for Dubai?
Just the ones that have contracts with 500 American companies and buy Boeing and Lockheed aircraft.
6 pair total? Not bad at all! That will leave you plenty of room for new acquistions!
It's info that's come too little too late.
This Administration doesn't know the meaning of the word "timing."
The American people (especially conservatives) need INFO before we side with an issue (case and point: Harriet Miers.)
Had the Bush Administration began making it's case for the Dubai Deal months ago, just MAYBE it wouldn't have turned into a debacle.
What issue has Savage not been an ass on? In fact, he can take either side of an issue or have no side at all, and he's still an ass.
Yup. Yup. Yup.
We need someone from FR in the WH managing their PR campaign.

uhh, sorry, i`m developing an allergy.
How about screw you and your pathetic ignorance?
But who'd carry the mail? :)
Some people that are mad at Bush because we haven't nuked Mecca yet don't want to hear that we really do have some Arab friends risking their lives to preserve the alliance between our two countries. It goes in one ear, out the other. Forbid they should get over their prejudices and irrational fears to see the truth.

I now return this thread to its original purpose.
ROFL.
We're eating out every night. We'll have breakfast in and play it by ear with lunch.
Back to regular programming :-)
Would they really admit they had infiltrated if they hadn't?
"Had the Bush Administration began making it's case for the Dubai Deal months ago, just MAYBE it wouldn't have turned into a debacle."
True - its hard to address these things when the 24/7 news cycle means issues escalate in hours not weeks now. I wouldn't want to be the president under any circumstances. That said, maybe there needs to be a White House media "SWAT team" that monitors and researches responses to these problems for the president's office quickly.
The Republicans did take the issue away from the Democrats; while understandable in the heat of the moment, my fear is we will live to regret it.
PANIC: ITS NOT JUST FOR LIBERALS ANY LONGER...
Yup, those goes to prove the UAE is an Al Qaeda stooge state. Oh wait, it actually proves the opposite. Nevermind.
