- The public, who never read past a headline, get all up in arms about the lie.
- Congressmen and Media people who want to pander to the public to gain more popularity jump out there ("They want something done, this is something, so if I do this they will love me!")
- The R party looses the selling point of being the only ones who will stop the Ds when they do this kind of thing.
Blocking this deal was not 'conservative'.
It was a private business deal, and blocking it required the use of govt power to stop the deal when no evidence of risk existed.
That's a clearly liberal position -- govt telling business what to do based on fear and "feelings".
