I am a small "r" republican. "No truce with kings" is the ultimate line of a verse in Rudyard Kipling's poem titled, "The Old Issue."

"He hath veiled the Crown And hid the Scepter," warn the Trumpets,
"He hath changed the fashion of the lies that cloak his will.
"Hard die the Kings--ah hard--dooms hard!" declare the Trumpets,
Trumpets at the gang-plank where the brawling troop-decks fill!

Ancient and Unteachable, abide--abide the Trumpets!
Once again the Trumpets, for the shuddering ground-swell brings
Clamour over ocean of the harsh, pursuing Trumpets--
Trumpets of the Vanguard that have sworn no truce with Kings!

Kings are kings, whether they call themself king, dear leader, first secretary, or president for life. I, too, swear no truce with them.

You can read the whole poem on my Freep page.

There were three "Ray's" in three generations of my family. I was the youngest - Little Ray. Big Ray is my dad and since I don't have any sons, I guess I am "Little Ray" forever. Use it as my Single Action Shooting Society, too.
And I'm not "little." I 6'1", and 47 years old.

Was lurking for a while, and then decided to jump in. I am from the great state of Nebraska (hence the red part) and had a bad cold at the time. My coworkers were calling me "Golum" after the Lord of the Rings character because of my rather nasty cough, and I figured Redgolum would be an ok screen name.

"Warchild" is my favorite Jethro Tull album.

The "9" refers to my childhood gang, myself and eight friends who pretty much formed our own baseball team. Attrition has since reduced us to seven (a fatal auto accident and a congenital medical problem), but we still keep in touch.

Very good idea for a thread Ms.B! You rock!

My name is mojo and Ma's fault~ they didn't like my original when I came into the Canteen..... so they told me to change it at once (hehe).

I lifted Mojo's famous "Diva" and added Betsy Ross- (since I am really interested in early American History).

And Viola! A new name!

What's The Origin Of Your Screenname?

When I first got my computer, My Mother told me about Free Republic. In the process of trying to figure out a screenname no one had already used Mom looked out her window, saw the stopsign at the cross road... : ) <<< me

I'm a big Tolkien fan and I read LORT several times.

My favorite character in LOTR is the youngest hobbit, Peregrin Took "Pippin". So, at the encouragement from Billie and some other FReepers, I chose Pippin even though Pippin is a male character. I just think it's too cute of a name for just boys or men only. Girls gotta have fun too! :o)

Morning all. I have to do a drive-by posting as my machine is re-booting in 10 minutes.

I got my name back int he 80's. I was teaching 5-year-olds Sunday School. They found out I was doing martial arts and Karate Kid was at the movies. THey called me Sensei instead of teacher. SO, I adopted it for online BBSing(before public access to the internet). WHen the internet took off, Sensei was often taken, so I took Sensei Ern to identify myself.

Now you know, what are you going to do with that info? ;)

You got a problem with that?

Oops!

Forgot the screen name thing.

My original "nick" was "Bongo - ( shortened nick of last name in alliteration )" but the same concept has stuck for over 40 years.

It involves a bought set of bongo drums, a wild afternoon, ( very early afternoon )/night/morning in San Juan, Puerto Rico, a Salsa band in a night club.....oh.....and Cuba Libres.....lots of them. A crazy cook on the boat whose nickname was "Hoss" gave me the initial nickname.

Not bad, not bad at all for a blonde, blue-eyed gringo. :-)

"El Gran Salseron" translates as "The Great Big Salsa Dancer/fanatic about Salsa music/Salsa musician." Take your pick.

The "El Gran Salseron" nick was given to me by fellow Salsa enthusiasts. They call me this nick or "Timbalero," "Timbales/drum player."

My name is Tricia and many lifetimes ago, certain inebriated family members would drawl Trilla when they would talk to me, and it stuck. Many family members still call me Trilla.

N8TXNinWV - Native Texan in West Virginia.

Born in Ft. Worth, moved all over, ended up in West by Gosh Virginia. If where I live in WV was in Texas...it would be heaven! :o)

I was at work and talking politics and music with a co-worker. He called me a "Rockin' Right Winger" due to being both an 80s headbanger and a conservative, and there you have it.
