FReeper Canteen ~ What's The Origin Of Your Screenname? ~ March 16, 2006

What is the origin of your screen name? Come tell us your story.... How'd ya choose your screen name? A situation in your life? Part of a song? Your Military service?
For me, it was three times I came across "Misbehavin" that decided it for me! I bought a blouse that had that on the tag... Then my MIL gave me a book about a cat called Ms.Behavin.. Then I heard the song "Ain't Misbehavin!"
So there ya have it! Have fun! Please, no politics in The Canteen.. We want our troops to rest, relax and relate!
Now tell us YOUR story!! |

Hey, at least I translate what I say in parenthesis! :) It could be worse, I could be typing only in Japanese >:D
Not that I know enough to actually do that.... :D

I used to work at USA Today's Baseball Weekly. A fellow editor loved weird sports names, and took a particular liking to obscure Arizona Diamondbacks minor leaguer Jhensy Sandoval. Sitting across from me, we would banter all day about the stupidest crap on earth, and somehow, at some point (I don't remember how), he began to refer to me as "Jhensy".
It caught on, and soon the 8 other people in the office called me that exclusively.
I left in 2000, and those 8 people are the only ones who have EVER called me Jhensy in my life. It just so happened that I signed up for Free Republic during the height of Jhensymania, and I've been saddled with that idiotic moniker here ever since.
Actually, it does come in handy as a unique Internet sign-in name over the years. I mean, NOBODY else has it.
BTW, it's pronounced JEN-zee.

Hi y'all!
My screen name sort of speaks for itself. I voted in the 2000 election in PBC. I was new to South Florida; the most DemocRat-infested place I'd ever lived. I was sick of the news trucks, the spotlight and the people around me who were ignorant regarding 9-11, our military, and political corruption. I couldn't wait to get the heck out of there.

Hey ... want to compliment you tag line. One of the best
I've seen. It out to be a "header" banner for all the
breaking news threads. We all ought to have this comment
at our disposal when needed.
Thanks for thinking it up for us,

It's Okinawan in origin. Shoto - waving pines or trees and kan - meaning house I believe.

Lol, what an interesting story.
See, the thing about Japanese is that while you might start studying it (maybe even half-heartedly) because of anime or whatever, it very quickly grows on you, even after you leave whatever got you started with it behind. (For instance, I haven't watched InuYasha in nearly two years, though I still like it.)
It's a very fascinating language :)
