What is the origin of your screen name? Come tell us your story.... How'd ya choose your screen name? A situation in your life? Part of a song? Your Military service?
For me, it was three times I came across "Misbehavin" that decided it for me! I bought a blouse that had that on the tag... Then my MIL gave me a book about a cat called Ms.Behavin.. Then I heard the song "Ain't Misbehavin!"
So there ya have it! Have fun! Please, no politics in The Canteen.. We want our troops to rest, relax and relate!
Now tell us YOUR story!! |

Although I never served (at the insistence of my family) I am a big supporter of the silent service. Some years ago I wanted a vanity plate for my car and sent several sub related ones in to see what I could get. I ended up with CRZYIVN, an abbreviation of CrazyIvan and the maximum # of letters available in my state. This has a double meaning as my name is John. Within a month I was pulled over for speeding in another state, against all odds by a state trooper who was retired Navy and had stayed at the B.O.Q. named for my uncle. After reading my name on my license and putting two and two together he let me go with a warning. As he handed me my license back he smiled and said "you do know what your plate means, don't you?". I said "yes" and wondered just what he was getting at. Later I read the ticket and it was made out for "following too closely". You bubbleheads understand. I decided that the name was lucky and have used it since. Here's my uncle's story.

When our kids were younger and would get caught at doing something wrong, the would question how they got busted; or I would answer some impossible (child) question, they would ask how I knew the answer. My response to them was 'who am I', their response was always "You are The Mom".

Long time driver, builder, racer of old Datsun Z's.
Of male persuasion.
Birthday added as suffix, since there apparently was already a "Zman" aboard.

I got it as a Counter-strike avatar. I guess it was a play on the phrase born to kill.

When I was promoted to Sergeant Major, I was the youngest on active duty at that particular time.
When LTG Graves congratulated me, he remarked to the effect: "just another old smaj".
("smaj" being a slang term for Sergeant Major)
I truly am the old smaj, now.
Still young at heart, though.

Mine comes from the PC game Deus Ex. JC Denton would have been my choice but at the time I signed up it was taken.

I love my screen name, so easy to remember, and it sounds downright friendly, doesn't it? (I've never read that Sisterhood book or seen the movie, and I'm not Greek.) Yaya was my daughter's nickname in college, her email addy and screen name before I accidently stole both and refused to give them back.

'Jinx' was my nickname, and my father's, in the service - he was Army Air Corps/Air Force, I was Army.
Add the greeting, and it becomes "Hi, Jinx!"
And there ya have it.
Now, let's see if we can get the third generation in here to explain his screen-name.
Beachn4fun has the distinction of naming the fourth generation of Jinxes!
