Americans continue to be troubled about the state of the press. But journalists themselves are troubled as well, according to "The State of the News Media 2006," a massive series of surveys and analyses released yesterday by the Project for Excellence in Journalism, a research group affiliated with Columbia University. .... Local TV news and local newspapers won the most accolades from the public. Both were rated favorably by three-quarters of the respondents with majorities agreeing that local news organizations concentrated on facts rather than opinions. Such major dailies as the New York Times did not fare so well, garnering a 38 percent favorability rating.... Overall, the public increasingly sees their press as "slanted," with 72 percent thinking the press favored one side or other, according to a poll of 1,464 adults. The number is up from 66 percent two years earlier. About 60 percent found the press politically biased, up from 53 percent. ...

I'm sure the Old Gray Ho will have banner headlines on the front page: NYT FAVORABILITY SINKS TO NEW LOW: Only two points ahead of the most horrible President in history

The survey found that 20 percent of the public described themselves as liberal; the figure was 34 percent among journalists. Although 33 percent of the public deemed themselves conservative; 7 percent of the press members identified themselves as conservative. The majority of journalists -- 54 percent -- say they are moderates, compared with 41 percent of the public.

Pffft! To a liberal journalist, the DNC-talking-points-leftism IS moderate. So they can go ahead and put the liberal journalist figure at 88%, but I'd still call that a low estimate.

Aside from the tediously Left bias of the press, its further problem is it is all "infotainment" now- a pretty river a mile wide, and half and inch deep.

Pretty faces, pretty pictures, endless chattering- and when it's done, you are left wondering "just what did I take away from all that?"

They are going to keep their heads firmly up their backsides right up to the day they get their first unemployment check. Even then I doubt if they'll figure it out.

Used to be SEX sells ...... No longer working for the MSM.

It's funny you should mention that- an old friend, dead now, used to annoy and sometimes outrage people, years ago, by claiming that the motivation behind everything was sex.

Didn't matter what it was, whether why you went to work each day, or popped a beer at the end of it, his answer was "sex!"

Actually, I think he had a point... although he kind of beat the subject to death.

The problem today is that everything is sexuallized- it's all very pretty, but it doesn't contribute anything of great value.

The problem I have with today's Pop Culture ( aside from the "Thugs & Jugs" aspect- it teaches all the boys to be hoods, and all the girls to be whores ) is it relentlessly teaches

1) everybody has a problem
2) whatever the problem, it's The End of The World
3) but luckily, purchasing The Correct Product will Solve the Problem!

Remember the CNN commercial for new Paula Zhan show 2 or 3 years back, her image on the screen with (supposedly) the sound of a zipper in the background.
That was pretty blatant.

The old black table phone media is one of the big advantages we have over the rat. Each time a survey is taken, few people get their news from these people. People, especially voters, have come to recognize the lies the rat media pushes and "the dogs don't like the food". This problem makes it harder for the rat to get his lies out and helps real Americans.

Boy, not mine. They stink. Uniformly.

Here is a prime example of terrible local news coverage. A few days ago some residents of an apartment complex in Los Angeles stopped a man who was trying to set the building on fire. Our local ABC affiliate had some video interviews of the residents in their 4 pm broadcast. One female resident stated that the man told her he was trying to burn the building down for Allah. At the end of that very report the talking head newscaster stated that officials did not know why the man was trying to burn the building down. I thought wow, that was odd. Did the talking head not even view her own video ? Did she not even hear what the women resident said ? Then on their 5 pm broadcast, the local ABC affiliate did not even show the video with the women resident who said the man told her he was trying to burn the building down for Allah.

Terrible. Terrible reporting that may have actually been attempting to cover up another Islamic attack on US soil.

Polls, polls, polls! They sure do sell it don't they? And unfortunately, many will follow the carrot. Of course you do know that the more a lie is told, the more the ignorant will believe it. The lie being that most of these polls are done at a time of day when only the non-working will be home. Who are the non-working? I don't think that I need to tell the intelligent. Also, they call only the democratic commie communities. So, think!

I'm thinking here, and no one comes to mind for that honor. All of the journalists that I have enjoyed and actually read or listened to in the past are just gone to that pencil and pen box of history. Not that they are dead, but they just don't do it right--the way it is meant to be. It "is" an oxymoron, but give me a minute to think of someone that influences me know...drawing a blank for the present. BRB

Think about 2006 and beyond? The MSM/DNC/CPUSA will be selling, brainwashing, coercing the public on the real PIG Hillary. The American people are so, so much more inteligent than they think. Let us all make the right choice in '08! And, as far as an Excellence in Broadcasting nominee...there is none.
