There is no religious freedom and little if any freedom of speech or press.U.A.E. CIA WorldFact Book
Religions:
Muslim 96% (Shi'a 16%), Christian, Hindu, and other 4%

Wow! This should be a good thread.
Even the parent company of FOX News is slowly but surely being swallowed up by Saudi interests.

Wonder how many Bibles you can buy in the stores over there in the UAE?

Courts: all emirates have secular courts to adjudicate criminal, civil, and commercial matters and Islamic courts to review family and religious disputes
To: Cedar
Probably as many as you want.
To: Echo Talon
Well then that's the best news I've heard in months.

Yes, the remark about FOX News was pretty sad and shocking.

Sorry, I don't believe that this article represents Cheney's views, and I don't trust any organization that conceals the names of its advocates. I scoured the website and couldn't find the identity of its members or officers.

The latest I heard around here is that DPW is holding on to the 6 ports until May. Just because the "story" has died down doesn't mean there aren't developments...

Yep, not really true freedom of religion there:
"However, the government does prohibit non-Muslims from proselytizing or distributing religious literature under penalty of criminal prosecution, imprisonment, or deportation, deeming such behavior to be offensive to Islam."

yes but it also says this..
According to the U.S. Department of State, non-Muslim religious leaders within the UAE and outside the country refer to it as one of the most liberal and broad-minded countries in the region in terms of governmental and societal attitudes toward allowing the unfettered practice of other faiths. The UAE government generally follows a policy of tolerance toward non-Muslim religions and, in practice, does not interfere very much with their religious activities.

That still doesn't qualify as real freedom of religion...if Bibles are not allowed in the public areas or even talking to people about Jesus Christ leads to jail.
These were the points I think the author was trying to make when also speaking of lack of freedom of press and speech.

"There is one underlying issue no one seems to look at; When we sell them equity in corporations and business property we get some cash back right away, but the profits from those deals then flow back to the Islamic states which in the long run makes the deficit flow from the USA even greater." Law of unintended consequences. Globalism's meltdown effect.
