LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Hot off his best picture win for "Crash," Paul Haggis is in final negotiations to direct and produce "Against All Enemies," a project based on Richard A. Clarke's best-selling memoir chronicling the Bush administration's handling of terrorist threats.
Clarke, a former U.S. terrorism czar, offers the ultimate insider's account into the nation's security apparatus, featuring a cast of power brokers that includes President Bush, Condoleezza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld and himself.
The book was published by Free Press in March 2004 and hit No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list, fueling intense criticism over the administration's security failures and its decision to go to war with Iraq.
It is unclear whether Haggis will tackle Columbia Pictures' hot-button political drama next or sandwich in another directing project first. Either way, he will initially supervise scribe James Vanderbilt ("The Rundown"), who is penning a second draft of "Enemies." Haggis is currently writing "Death and Dishonor" for Warner Bros. Pictures, which he is attached to direct.
In addition to nabbing a best picture Oscar for producing "Crash," Haggis also won a statuette for writing the film's original screenplay with Bobby Moresco. His producing credits also include last year's best picture winner, "Million Dollar Baby," which he adapted.

Wow, never in a million years expected an anti Bush film from Hollywood....
Since the Oscars, 'Bareback Mountin' has dropped off the radar screens. I wonder why? </sarcasm>
The same guy who published a piece in the summer of 2001 saying the greatest threat to America was from cyberterrorism. What a genius.
Seriously.
Hollywood is finished.
Paul Haggis and his ilk have placed the nails into the coffin.
Yes, it is one of those things that make you say hmmmmm.......soon in video stores
Mr Clarke was one of the few top officials from the Clinton era to be retained by George W Bush's administration.
If things go as badly for the GOP this fall as many are predicting, then we can probably expect quite a bit of gloating from Hollywood, as they will probably be under the delusion that they played some part in it.
One of the worst movies I ever saw. We all hated it and mentioned how we felt like walking out within 15 minutes, but each felt they had to stay because of the others.
Seems to be a mistake on Bush's part.
Limbaugh was right -- way too many of today's reporters just sit around waiting for their "news stories" to come in over the fax.
I thought it was a forgettable film....When it came up for an oscar I really had to think hard what the film was about.....yawn....
You and Rush are so right.....I now look at "news reports" and notice so much of it is not news....ie: polls
There wasn't one value perpetuated by Crash worth keeping, except the scene where Dillon pulled the lady out of the burning vehicle, near the end.
The film could have been called "Trash".
Today's reporters are excedingly lazy. All they need to do is rehash Reuters or the AP.
Is Haggis the clown who, about a week ago, said he was sympathetic with suicide bombers??
Cheeze, this article isn't a news report -- even an entertainment news report. It's a blinking press release!
Limbaugh was right -- way too many of today's reporters just sit around waiting for their "news stories" to come in over the fax.

This is one gripe one can honestly hold against the Bush administration. For all his (billions and billions) of character flaws - WJ Clinton understood what you just said.
He FED the media. They still have shills posting daily spin, and they had an active "war room" stage-managing the media from the beginning of the campaign. See Howard Kurtz' "Spin Cycle" for some background.
Bush doesn't give a rip.
Not that that's a bad thing - but Rove should. Others in the adminstration should. The media needs to publish, or be darned. They need FOOD. Even if it comes in faxes, and internet publicity.
This administration needs to more actively spin the media. Every day. Otherwise they sit around pouting about being ignored - and criticize.
Wonder who's money he's throwing away...another loser film!
Throw some gay people in the plot ...It'll help
Haggis? How Robert Burns.
