Oberweis gains on Topinka!
St. Louis Post-Dispatch ^ | 3-12-06 | Kevin McDermott

Topinka 36% Oberweis 25% Gidwitz 19% Brady 11% Martin 1% Undecided 8%

Oberweis closing on Topinka, poll finds SPRINGFIELD BUREAU 03/12/2006

Judy Topinka continues to pose the most serious threat to Gov. Blagojevich, still holding him under 50% support among likely voters, according to a new Post-Dispatch/KMOV-TV poll.

But two weeks out from the GOP primary for governor, Topinka herself faces a growing threat from Jim Oberweis. Oberweis, a wealthy dairy owner, has made substantial gains against her in the past month.

The poll of 800 likely voters was conducted Monday through Wednesday by Research 2000. The poll has a margin of error of 3.5%. The poll found that Topinka continues to lead over four other Republicans going into the March 21 primary, and that she is the only candidate within striking distance of Blagojevich.

"There's no question Blagojevich is vulnerable. He's under 50%, that's the bottom line," said the head of Research 2000. "If Topinka rides out this storm, it could be a very interesting general election."

But the primary may be a rougher storm for Topinka than it previously appeared. In a five-way race, the poll found Topinka is still comfortably ahead of second-place candidate Oberweis, by 36% to 25%. But that lead has shrunk significantly since early February, when a Chicago Tribune poll put Topinka ahead of Oberweis 38% to 17%.

Topinka is campaigning as a fiscal conservative/social moderate, traditionally the most successful combination for Republican candidates in Illinois general elections - though hard-right conservatives such as Oberweis have often found success in GOP primaries.

"It's tighter than it was, which you would expect, given the money that Oberweis...(has) spent," said Kent Redfield, political expert (U of I Springfield).

"She's certainly in a good position, still. If the dynamics don't change dramatically, she's going to win."

The posted quotation merely rejected forcing of religious views, beliefs, feelings upon people. Religion cannot be forced except for Moslems.

That in no way implies that in a representative democracy certain groups will not force their POLITICAL views through the ballot box.

And it in no way implies that under these conditions the motivation for such a political action COULD be religious.

If that quote is the only evidence you have that Oberweis is Pro-Choice it is woefully insufficient.

If this is too complicated let me know.

I Pole-axed the True Believer when I considered the actuality of where people in Illinois are politically.

LoL I had a pollster asking about that race the other day.

Is the Head of Cook County the second most powerful public official in the State?

In case you are living under a rock, it is acknowledged by everyone familiar with the situation that Oberweis was talking about WHY HE IS NOT PRO-LIFE -- because to be pro-life would be to impose his supposed pro-life views on others, which would make him like the Taliban.

He was explaining why he supports legal abortion.

This is not a contested point.

You have to be a moron to think that he was talking about establishing a state religion or forcing conversions or something.

Time is getting short for a good, effective decision.

Is the opinion you hold regarding Oberweis widely held in the part of Illinois in which you live?

Here in the central part where I live Oberweis is well thought of, as is Brady.

The trash talk hasn't even started yet about Topinka, most people in Illinois know about her, but for those who don't, they will soon. I doubt she'll get the nomination.

As for Blago, even the Rats who elected him are fed up with him!

JBT will lose the conservative base. Better a corrupt Blago than the liar RINO JBT

No WAY, anyone but Blago or JBT! Funny, no one in Illinois has seen Blago til now. Now he's all over the TV, whoring for votes.

---"If Judy Bore Toooooopinka is the best the GOP can do for a nominee, I will gladly vote for Blago and urge every Republican to do so."---

It may seems odd to outsiders, but I agree. I will vote for Blago over Topinka, in the hops of cutting our losses to just four years. If Judy wins, we are guaranteed a total liberal for a minimum of eight years; if she loses, we'll be stuck with an unpopular Democrat until 2008 - where we can put forth a better candidate.

I will actually vote Blago, just like you, if Judy Baar is the other choice. She is THAT bad.

WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!

PHYLLIS SCHLAFLY
Phyllis Schlafly for Oberweis
www.eagleforum.org
On March 21st, Illinois Republicans will make a critical decision for the future of Illinois families and taxpayers. Republican primary voters will determine who will be our Party’s nominee for Governor. I strongly encourage you to cast your vote for Jim Oberweis in the Republican Primary for Governor.

At a time when public corruption in both parties is being vigorously prosecuted, Jim Oberweis presents himself as a real reformer who has no ties to Springfield or to previous administrations.

Jim Oberweis is a successful businessman, a family man, and a former educator. He is an advocate for school choice by vouchers, the sanctity of innocent human life, the preservation of our Second Amendment rights, and the enforcement of our laws against illegal immigration. Jim is a driving force behind the Protect Marriage Illinois initiative, personally gathering petition signatures and providing financial assistance.

A special word to my pro-life friends: Political pundits are predicting that a pro-abortion, pro-gay-rights feminist will win this important election because pro-lifers are divided between two candidates. I plead with pro-lifers not to let that happen in this crucial race for Illinois Governor. I believe it is vitally important to the pro-life cause that we all get behind one candidate so that the pro-abortion candidate doesn’t win. The best chance we have to prevent this disaster is to support Jim Oberweis.

Please contact one of the following Oberweis coordinators closest to you, as soon as possible. Let’s get Jim Oberweis elected Governor of Illinois. www.oberweisforillinois.com

TitansAFC: Judy Bore Toooooopinka is Illinois's basic Lowell P. Weicker, Jr., or UpChuck Percy or John Lindsay in GOP drag! Vote for Oberweiss and, if Judy Bore is the nominee, vote for Blago early and often in the fall.

As you posted, if Judy Bore were governor, we are AT LEAST eight years fromn having a governor we can stand. With Blago, we can win after a determined four years.

The bottom line: Take this party back and we can take the state. If WE don't take the party back, we CANNOT take the state back because Tooooopinka is Blago is Kjellander is Edgar is Thompson is Daley ois Obama is Durbin is Her Heinous the Hildebeast is..........

The perfect is the enemy of the good. Vote Oberweiss and put Judy Bore and her crook friends out to pasture.

Do I remember correctly that you are a resident of the Rockford area and very pro-life? If so, we need to get together after the primary.

Meanwhile, we need to recognize that the most important priority to be achieved on 3/21 is the destruction of JBT and her wing of the GOP. You don't have to trust Oberweiss to defeat JBT but voting for Brady will not even defeat JBT because Brady's candidacy is dead as a doornailk. Oberweiss may not be perfect but he is good enough for gummint work. We punished him two years ago on our issue and he has groveled to us ever since the preprimary period in 2004.

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. He has repented and asked forgiveness. I want nmy own trespasses forgiven. How about you?

If Oberweiss is nominated, there is no guarantee of his election but if he is not nominated, JBT will be nominated and there will be no reason to vote for governor. We will be left to write in Donald Duck.

Also, I realize that Phyllis Schlafly is not as young as she used to be but I am quite willing to follow her lead to Oberweiss and will give her the benfit of the doubt of knowing Illinois better than do I. She is still the good social policy Battleship Schlafly who saved us from the Equal Rights Amendment.

As pro-lifers, we gotta do the best we can and that means Oberweiss because pollwise and viability in 2006-wise, Brady has gone where Titanic went.

Give me some slack on this one. Pre-retirement as an attorney, I represented 1100 arrested pro-lifers and only about 30 (courtesy of their militance) were convicted. I charged them no fees. Please trust my pro-life bona fides as I trust yours. Purge the party of the JBTs. Vote for Oberweiss next Tuesday.

As to JBT's honesty, that only means that she is an honest murderer, among onther things. I'll take the poenitent sinner anytime. Won't you?????

Excuse me but why is an out-of stater so interested in our politics?

I should leave you to your abortion-loving RINOs and mind my own business, huh?

Because who cares how many liberals you and your fellow Illini elect, how does it affect me?

I follow political races in every state and lots of foreign countries, and I point out the facts and offer analysis, because I enjoy it, and because some people like to have the facts publicized.

Ask not for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
