A friend of mine took these pictures of a cougar.  He lives right outside of Yellowstone, and the cougar apparently wanted to get inside of his house.

The cougar you can see isn't necessarily a threat. It's the cougar that's stalking you, that you don't see, that is the greater threat. People who hike the mountains whee I live rarely see cougars. But the cougars always see them.

We too thought it was a baby cougar by the looks of its paws. Which now makes me wonder where the MAMA is. Yipes...

Property values do tend to go down when we get to the flamethrower stage, don't they?

Kind of what I was thinking. Look on the face makes me figure the cat is thinking "Well HELLO Lunch."

We had problems with bears coming up to our windows and peering in. At the time, we had three Rottweilers - and we had to lock them in a room without windows or upstairs when the bears were in the neighborhood.

At my last house, I had problems with raccoons coming in through the doggie door.

Saw on Animal Planet a piece on cougars...their cry is like a house cat, not a lion's roar. And they purr.

Looked like a fairly young one, as well. I suspect, if he keeps up his voyeurism, he'll be hanging on the barn door to dry...

I'll take your word for it cause I is NOT going to pet it.

All cats, from your domestic house cat to Lions and Tigers, purr.

In that part of the country, rock salt is not usually an option. If the cats are coming into back yards they are either shot "in self defense" or animal control is called to relocate them.

Usually, if one gets the taste of easy prey (human) and knows where to find it, the cat has to be killed.

"No fear of humans means it's only a matter of time until it attacks pets or humans. "

I'd have smeared tuna on the end of my shotgun, gently opened the glass door, slid the barrel through and offered the kitty a treat.

Thanks to the PantherPanderers I have to carry a Redhawk at all times, even when going to the car.

Whether it will make any difference depends on whether the cdat impact knocks me out. But, in any case, having had a bad disc operated on, the odds are that even if I survived, I'll likely be a paraplegic.

:-(

Beats being dinner, though.

Welcome to life in the Turd World; I now have the same risks imposed on me that we are imposing on Indian peasents who are being eaten by tigers we are supporting.

Not surprisingly, the cry "ugly Americans" is being heard again.

'Tis a bit of a problem to justify to another human being why you are placing him at risk of a horrible and prolonged death in the mouth of a large cat.

I wouldn't want to tangle with any of the big cats, OR a wolf for that matter. :)
