Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread Thirty-Five

:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Unrest in Pakistan Setback for Terror War
(Full Story)

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- A week of unprecedented urban fighting in the wild tribal belt of North Waziristan has left scores dead and forced thousands to flee their homes, raising the stakes in Pakistan's war on Islamic militancy along the Afghan border.

A jumbled alliance of foreign militants, local tribesmen and Islamic students eager for jihad have stepped up resistance in a region where the army already claims to have wiped out al-Qaida as a viable fighting force.

The unrest, brewing for months, is a setback to the U.S.-led war on terror. Further hampering that effort are deteriorating relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan over Afghan claims that Taliban leader Mullah Omar is hiding in Pakistan and suicide bombers are training here.

*** Hillary Alert

HILLARY RAISES BIG BUCKS IN TEXAS BUSH COUNTRY. Senator Clinton did a great deal of fundraising around the country in March, and her private fundraising schedule -- which was passed along by a source -- shows that she raked in big bucks in that most impenetrable of red-state strongholds: Texas.
The schedule lists a dozen events in four states, in the space of just two months, March and April. This is very significant, because all the activity shows just how determined Hillary's advisers are to stockpile an enormous campaign warchest at a time when she is facing only token opposition for reelection in 2006 -- something which of course will only fuel speculation that her fundraising right now is also about scaring off potential Dem challengers in 2008.

On March 21, the schedule shows, Hillary quietly slipped off to Texas for an unpublicized swing through that state, where the junior senator from the ultimate blue state raked in as much as $4,200-per-person in some of the most red-hued of venues. For instance, one event was a breakfast at, of all places, the Dallas Petroleum Club, a mahogany-festooned enclave whose president was once Ray Hunt, a top Bush fundraiser and oilman. She also had a fundraising event at a barbeque in San Antonio and an event crowded with high-tech entrepreneurs in Austin (the state capitol where Bush presided as Texas governor).

Here's something interesting. A source familiar with the Austin event tells me that at least one attendee was surprised by the fact that many who showed up were Republican women, lots of them first-time donors. I mention this not to argue that Hillary has crossover appeal, but to show how aggressively her fundraisers are working to tap diverse constituencies around the country. Her schedule also shows events in Washington, DC, Rhode Island, and Missouri -- an amount of national activity that, for someone who's so far ahead in polls and money for reelection, is striking.

****Funny they keep spouting how illegals have taken over the construction industry...****

Our next door neighbor is a former contractor from California. Their family left a couple of years ago because of illegals. Homes are being built all over the USA with unskilled labor - many illegals being trained "on the job" with no supervision. Skilled workers are bypassed for illegals who work for minimum wage doing the work. Cracked cathedral ceilings, wallboard not taped properly, creaking floors, cracked foundations - yep, you may never pay attention to the defects, but rest assured a building inspector will find them when you are attempting to sell the home.

I was told by someone who has been in New Orleans twice since Katrina that illegals are doing construction work while locals sit and watch. They watch because they are on the federal dole and working (ie; drawing a paycheck) prevents them from receiving $$ without raising a finger. Guess it's easier for the State to issue welfare and unemployment checks than teach those who refuse to work how to rebuild their city.

And I still contend that the unemployment figures are low because they are denying many filed claims

Bird-Flu Pandemic Would Likely Start in California

THURSDAY, March 30 (HealthDay News) -- If a bird-flu pandemic does hit the United States, it may well start in California and spread across the country in just two to four weeks.

And the best way to slow its spread would be to have workers stay at home.

That's the scenario drawn from results of a computer model created by researchers at the U.S. National Institutes of Health's Fogarty International Center. And while the results of that computer model should be interpreted with caution, it is based on data from ordinary flu epidemics for the last three decades, said study author Dr. Mark A. Miller, associate director for research at the center.

***PREPARE folks. This is going to get nasty.****

I believe that to be true, unfortunately.

Why there was a Boston Tea Party suddenly becomes more understandable to me. For days now, it's the ONLY topic of note on TV and talk radio. It's already getting ugly .

Four members of a family from Frost, Minn., were arrested Tuesday after authorities found 114 explosive devices and more than 20 pounds of explosive materials inside their home and buried in their yard.

The suspects are a mother and father and their 19- and 15-year-old sons, authorities said. Faribault County authorities said the suspects are linked to a half-dozen mailbox explosions in rural Freeborn County over the past few months

My company has already been sending messages out to employees to prepare and published its plan. They are preparing for most workers to be able to log in from home and sales to be able to use web based meeting placed for demos of products and training. Everything would be remote.

"3 Israelis killed in terror attack at Kedumim gas station"
By YAAKOV KATZ

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Three Israelis were killed Thursday night after a suicide bomber blew up inside an Israeli car near the gas station at the entrance to the settlement of Kedumim in the northern West Bank."

ARTICLE #2: "The IDF said it appeared that Israelis traveling in the car apparently picked up a Palestinian hitchhiker with an explosive belt who blew himself up as the car traveled near Kedumim.

The car, which was utterly burned in the explosion, had yellow plates and was not reported stolen, leading security officials to believe that the Israelis had mistakenly picked up a Palestinian suicide bomber, believing that he was a Jewish Israeli.

The Aksa Martyrs' Brigades took responsibility for the attack, saying the bomber was Ahmad Mashrake, aged 24."

If we have a plan, it hasn't been put out to the workerbees. Fortunately I've got a fair amount of sick leave accrued but would hate to use it for this if I'm not sick.
