American politicians are riding for a fall. If only they knew it. Instead they are so immersed in scoring political points off each other that they have failed to do their research. But then, why should facts come in the way of a good that is, popular issue in an election year?
The powerful House Appropriations Committee of the US House of Representatives has voted, 62-2, to block a deal that would allow Dubai Ports World ownership of six American ports. Representatives have worked themselves into frenzy, believing the security of the ports will be at risk because of Arab management.
Few politicians, or even the public, seem to have bothered to pay attention to the truth that DP World does not have control over security issues in the port as they are handled by US Coast Guards.
Instead, it is deemed better to jump on the bandwagon of anti-Arab, anti-Middle East, anti-Muslim tirade that has been popular since the 9/11 attacks. Then, even the US vice-president got in on the false information act by claiming Saddam Hussain was behind the attacks, something ultimately proved wrong that the vice-president has continually failed to acknowledge, merely perpetuate the myth.
Of course, much of the anti-Arab sentiment must be laid at the door of the White House. Since the days of 9/11 it has encouraged the American public to believe all things Middle Eastern are to be feared, and that the Republican Party is the only one capable of protecting the country against terrorist attacks from Arabs. Small wonder, then, with Arabs being seen in such a light, and with Americans not understanding the region and its differences, the public should be so against the deal. And while the public think that, be sure the politicians will think likewise.

HEY! add me to that ping!

No, MOST of the Anti-Arab sentiment must be laid at the door of the Arabs.
I'm pretty sure no one in the whitehouse danced in the streets as the buildings camd down on 9/11.
They hate us, and have for a long time. It might as well be mutual.
Thank you so much for posting this....
shouldn't you be working? LOL!
Oh yeah- it is your weekend... Thurs and Fri...? right?
LOL! wooops.. you got me on the 2nd one...
Thank you. Rush Limbaugh said of it is was a "Disgraceful display". You will now be flamed to the crisp by the usual collection of Know Nothings for telling them the truth. I thank you. It is useful that someone ON THE GROUND IN UAE, such as yourself, would speak truth to the fools.
I think it would be hilarious if the UAE said, "You want to use our ports for your Navy ships... Pay us $100 billion per year.
hey! shouldn't you be in bed?
Umm yes. WAY passed my bedtime. Have to go to work in 4 hours. See ya BYE
Nice post, Prince.
FYI, mrsmith
LOL!
I didn't mean to run you off!
LOL!
Boy...did they read the White House wrong...if anything, President Bush has been accused of being an Arabist...and being TOO pro-Muslim/Arab.
Cheney NEVER said that Saddam was behind 9/11...just that they cooperated with the ones the did do it...and we couldn't be sure that Saddam wouldn't try it if he had the chance..
They seemed to listen with DEM ears....LOL
BTW..thanks for posting this editorial....actually it is much tamer than I thought it would be.
LOL...I did in the second...I hit post on the first one..before I meant to...
Sorry, next time you are NUMBER UNO!
* PING *
I am embarrassed by my country's actions over this situation and, even though it means little in a worldwide sense, I offer my apologies to your country.

So, let me get this straight - While the entire US political-wonk class is frothing out the mouth over the sale of "port dock concessions to the United Arab Emirates" in a fashion I havent seen since the great "Flouride Wars of the 1950's", it turns out that "Emirates Air" and its subsidiary "Emirates Sky Cargo" has Passenger and Cargo Terminal Space at JFK.
ROFLLLL!!!
No prob!
I just thought, "dang! girl gotta ping list and I am not on it!? But I am her BIGGEST FAN!!!!!!"
