As the war in Iraq grinds into its fourth year, a growing proportion of Americans are expressing unfavorable views of Islam, and a majority now say that Muslims are disproportionately prone to violence, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
The poll found that nearly half of Americans -- 46 percent -- have a negative view of Islam, seven percentage points higher than in the tense months after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, when Muslims were often targeted for violence.
Conservative and liberal experts said Americans' attitudes about Islam are fueled in part by political statements and media reports that focus almost solely on the actions of Muslim extremists.
According to the poll, the proportion of Americans who believe that Islam helps to stoke violence against non-Muslims has more than doubled since the attacks, from 14 percent in January 2002 to 33 percent today.

Is it bias or are Americans just seeing the truth?
Nazi Germany probably wasn't too popular among Americans in 1943, either.

The Compost is still trying to figure out were we got that negative perception. Maybe it was on 9/11? Nah, that couldn't be it.

While I hope Americans are beginning to see the truth about Islam being a violent religion, the following "...when Muslims were often targeted for violence..." is an out and out lie. There was no widespread violence against Muslims following 9-11 to justify such a statement.

More Americans are becoming aware of the true nature of Islam. America is not Europe.

"Overdue good news" bump...wonder if WaPo is downplaying the figures though! Can't trust their "polls."

Politically incorrect guide to Islam and the Crusades.
Just finished it.
Great book.
Amazon has it as #158 in books sales. That means a lot of people are ahving hard questions answered by a source other than TV or newspapers. people are starting to seek alternate sources as they can no longer rely on the 'mainstream' as in the past.

No Sh!t WaPo.
It isn't the so called Islamophobs who don't trust Islam that are the idiots in this scenario.
It's the Nevil Chamberlain liberals who are willing to believe the Muslim rope a dope message of being a religion of piece and love that are the real idiots.
It seems to me that every time push comes to shove the Muslim clerics come down on the side of the be headers, murdering rapists and suicide bombers.

From the article:
James J. Zogby, president of the Washington-based Arab American Institute, said he is not surprised by the poll's results. Politicians, authors and media commentators have demonized the Arab world since 2001, he said.
Sure, the Muslims shouting 'Death to Israel' and Death to America' doesn't have anything to do with the West finally waking up to the threat these animals pose.
Religion of Peace, my ass.

REPLY:
I don't remember that Muslims were targeted for violence after 9-11.
The way the WaPo says it we had unroll mobs marching in the streets, cutting off Muslim heads and burning Mosques left and right.

REPLY:
How the hell do you tell the difference between a Muslim extremists and peaceful Muslim, you can't.
When the so called peaceful Muslim clerics call for death to the infidel what do these smug elitists bast@rds at the WaPo want us to do?

And as the supposed moderates keep rioting and burning down other faiths Holy sites, you will see the Western world really getting into it with them.
I think patience is wearing very thin.

What! Only 46% have a negative view of Islam? I am dissappointed. I feel it should be much higher.
