Whats with the Dubai ports deal bill? (Vanity)

Posted on 03/08/2006 5:25:00 PM PST by wingsof liberty

Whats with the timing on this new bill? I thought Dubai Ports World agreed to an open, visible 45 day investigation on wether they should be in charge of some operations at U.S. ports. Thats what politicians agreed to, and now theyre preparing to introduce a bill that would kill the deal, with billions in aid for Iraq, the Gluf Coast, Afghanistan, etc. also attached to it. This way Bush cant veto it without becoming the bad guy. So why are these politicians unwilling to even wait for the investigation to conclude before they pull this? Its as if I went to a bank to apply for a home loan, I am asked to fill out an application and while I am still filling it out, the loan officer tells me I have been turned down. Hows that for logic?

Politicians listened to their constituents for once

Nope. CFR, RX Drug and the Education Bill all polled really well also. Leadership is NOT about listening to the polls to decide what to do. Stupidity that polls well is STILL stupid.

You're hysterical.

The American people oppose this deal.

The House committee opposes this deal.

The vast majority of House members oppose this deal.

It looks like most Senators oppose this deal too.

Its a bad deal all around.

We have checks and balances, separation of powers and Constitutional power sharing for good reason.

This is not a dictatorship. America is a Constitutional Republic.

Americans of both major political stripes, in significant numbers, don't trust Arab Muslims to run the ports. There is a sense (rightly or wrongly) that this would be a vulnerability in our war against Islamic terrorism.

President Bush never articulated a convincing case to change that point of view.

It's a "free" vote. Nothing will come of it.

If the sheep can be kept stupid and frightened the deal will eventually fall through though.

Nice imagery. Now, can you make a reasoned post without the dumb imagery?

That's right. Cling to your ignorance and political bigotry. Nice job turning the Ports over to the Feds stoodges. Going to be impossible to stop the Democrats Port Security bill now after all the hysteria and disinformation you fools have been spewing. More stupidity that polls well but is still stupid. Way to add thousands to the Govt Workers Unions you fools.

Imagery aside, it does depict what's going on.

"Americans of both major political stripes, in significant numbers, don't trust Arab Muslims to run the ports."

But, you see, they would only be running part of the ports. The hysteria factor is making it seem like they are going to eat the whole enchilada.

"There is a sense (rightly or wrongly) that this would be a vulnerability in our war against Islamic terrorism."

That's back to what Dane has been saying about running the government via polls - many here have berated Bill Clinton Past/Present/Future for running with the polls. The president stands by his decision regardless of hysteria, and now its a bad thing? This is the sort of thing that troubles me greatly, a healthy dose of hypocrasy in ourselves.

"President Bush never articulated a convincing case to change that point of view."

Sure he did! He was, however, drowned out by the shills propped up by the media.

Hillary and Schumer started this ball rolling, and we have been snared by their game. Of all the times to *get* snared, this has to be the worst.

"checks and balances."

Nonsense. Demogagary, poll watching and media whoredom. They are suppose to be leaders not followers. Simply abolish the Republic since the Whine All The Time fools want a vote on everything. Go see the historic record of Direct Democracy you silly little people. It doesn't work.

You'd probably get more serious replies if you canned the ad homonyms.

"Americans of both major political stripes, in significant numbers, don't trust Arab Muslims to run the ports."
The lack of trust Americans feel is not only directed exclusively towards Arab Muslims (which we have to admit pose the greatest threat to us). The latest poll on the issue asks respondents wether they opposed the deal because the UAE is involved or because they are opposed to ANY foreign country managing our ports. The results were as follows: 71% chose the "NO FOREIGN COMPANY should manage ports" choice, while 24% chose "No UAE company should manage ports.

Because 70% of Americans are against.

The remainder of 30% supporters are located on this site.
