Stupid is right. I saw Blitzer do an interview in Dubai the other day and the man he was interviewing, I think the head of the company said America gets shipments from China, Korea, etc and they don't mind that what they don't realize is that we manage those ports too.

Great post and analysis. It's so sad that now both parties will demagogue an issue just for political advantage no matter how it effects the country.

Excellent news! The bill will sail through the full House. Let's see if W. wants to veto troop funding to kill this.

"Just mark my words on this. If Congress blocks the Dubai Ports from managing the ports terminals then the UAE government will ask our military to leave their naval and air bases there, as well as kicked out our CIA and FBI agents from their country. It will be a great strategic loss of an ally and military bases in the midst of the war on terror. Also do not be surprised if Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain will have similar reaction to us in consolidation with their brethren in the UAE. Even to make it worse the Arab dominant OPEC may cut its production by 1 million barrel and the oil prices will soar. Already two other non Arab countries (Iran and Venezuela) were asking to cut production."I don't think the first is going to happen let alone the rest. Don't you think you're overeacting just a bit?????

So they're blackmailing us? And we should give in to them? No thanks.
The notion that our entire alliance rests on this one deal has been repeated here again and again, but nobody's ever provided any evidence.
Is it really all or nothing? There's NO other paths toward friendship we can pursue short of this deal? If so, then tough luck, UAE.
I don't want us blackmailed by ANY country.

After spending the last couple of years squalling daily about Federal Spending, way to demagogue yourselves into political position where you will now be responsible for expanding the reach, cost and scope of the Federal Govt! Stupid, stupid, stupid. If a gov't is going to be in charge of ANY operation in the U.S., I'd much rather it be our gov't. as opposed to especially, a mozlem gov't...
Actions have consequences you idiots.
And inaction sometimes has even worse consequences...You must be losing a lot of dough on this deal...

Take that Bill Clinton!
Bill Clinton helped Dubai on ports deal

Bill Clinton, former US president, advised top officials from Dubai two weeks ago
on how to address growing US concerns over the acquisition of five US container terminals by DP World.
It came even as his wife, Senator Hillary Clinton, was leading efforts to derail the deal.

Sometimes Nat. Security supersedes political advantage. Well founded rumors are that Dubai has given us intel on the WOT we can get no where else. Why would such an ally of the US be treated as we are treating them. It's dumb.

However, if it goes through the republicans will lose many seats this fall in the elections, plus if they sanction the presidents "gold card" scheme we will lose even more.
A great rant there... However it ignores the realities. Ticked off over "gold cards" so you'd vote for the guy/gal/both (1 year male, 1 year female) from the other party who doesn't even like this pitiful little restriction? Somehow I don't see the Democrats really jumping onto the illegal bandwagon. They'd be culled from their own party for 'joining the Minutemen.'
So, really, if you're looking for ingredients for disaster, look elsewhere. I don't see much change other than mostly flipper seats doing what they do. Toss pennies into the air and you'd likely get it right.

An American partner company will be appointed and the deal will proceed. It's been the plan all along and will funnel $$ to politicians and unions.

Are they also going to clean up after the other ports already controlled by foreign, i.e. China, interests?

Just one more time congress people are second guessing a President who has an excellent track record of defending the country
Unless of course you look at the Mexican border situation.
