Air America On Defense For Second Time In Two Weeks
Billboard Radio Monitor ^ | March 7, 2006 | Chuck Taylor

Posted on 03/08/2006 9:49:32 AM PST by new yorker 77

Air America found itself on the defense for the second time this week following reports in both the New York Post and New York Daily News today (March 7) implying that the liberal talk network was about to lose its New York flagship station, WLIB-AM.

The Post, in particular, seemed to offer a sensationalist slant to its reporting of the alleged loss of WLIB. Reporter John Mainelli wrote, “Air America is close to losing its New York flagship station, knocking Al Franken and his liberal colleagues off the air on the second anniversary. Losing its New York outlet would be a serious blow to the fledgling liberal radio network. Air America's options for a new home are not promising. All of the city's other strong-signal stations are spoken for, leaving only weak-signal ‘fringe’ stations that do not cover the entire city and suburbs.”

Danny Goldberg, CEO of Air America Radio, responded late Tuesday morning to “recent reports via the conservative media” in a staff memo in which he said, “Air America’s ratings in New York went up substantially in the fall 2005 book. Air America’s New York audience is large, growing and valuable. In every conceivable scenario, Air America will continue to be on in New York City.”

He went on to stress that Air America Radio is on track to be stronger still in the coming year and years: “Our audience is bigger, the total number of affiliates carrying our programming is greater, and the amount of revenue we are generating is increasing.

“It is vital, when analyzing chatter about Air America to consider the source,” Goldberg continued. “In almost all cases, the people who say bad things about our company’s business are conservative ideologues who have a particular interest in damaging Air America, for one reason and one reason only: the political opinions expressed by our on air talent. Bill O’Reilly alone has mentioned Air America on 37 separate occasions since our programming went on the air. Al Franken has offered to debate O’Reilly in any number of forums including on “The O’Reilly Factor” and O’Reilly has declined.”

The list of whom he stole from is very impressive.

That the NY Slimes do not care about the children and the other victims is impressive.

Not surprising, but impressive.

The Slimes really show their hand as a shill for the DNC.

WLIB was always Commie-Central. It is owned by Inner-City Broadcasting which is owned by the Sutton family (Percy and Pierre) and others like Jesse Jackson and Andrew Young. It is the Suttons who gave NYC the Carter-like Dinkins. Their time as power brokers is sun-setting but they will always be an open platform for the Hillarys, Jacksons and Sharptons (it was LIB that gave Maddox, Mason and Sharpton free rein and all the time they wanted during the Brawley mess).

This is a great article.

I read it twice, very carefully.

This is an example of what was called a "non-denial denial" during the Watergate era. The report is made that Air America will lose its flagship station. None of the comments from Air America contradict that report.

Many here have left some great encouraging messages only to get them DELETED by mean-spirited moderators! If only free speech really existed at Err America like they profess!

Free speech and tolerance is only preached by the left, not practiced! I see there are plenty of "pixels" still for sale. How pathetic, begging for money. Real talent would have no trouble finding advertisers, and would become wealthy like Rush. These folks fall more into a "religion" than entertainment - passing the plate in order to get back on the air, or internet. The good Freedom Express train driver, Dr. Newcomb, should go back to the operating table (if he is a real doctor).

"Bill O’Reilly alone has mentioned Air America on 37 separate occasions since our programming went on the air.."

They forgot to mention that it was followed all 37 times by derisive laughter.

Also, don't forget that NYC has had the original, all-time commie radio station, WBAI, smack in the middle of dial at 99.5 for decades now.

Always struggling, always begging, always waving the red banner, going back to the Norman Mailer/Village Voice/folk music era. And having the overall cultural impact of a gnat.

So, when Air America hit the airwaves, you already had the usual NPR/college radio nitwits on the left of the dial, WBAI right in the middle, and the WLIB loonies on the right.

Plenty of places to go for your nutbag fix. Of course, none of these stations could ever compete with talent such as Jerry Springer, Randi Rhodes, and Al Franken.

Tee hee.

Of course it's the beginning......of the END!!! Whee!! I think those idiots really believed they were beating Rush and Sean, etc., in all those markets. I notice the Quake billboards have come down in the Bay Area - where they are ranked far below both conservative talk stations KSFO and KNEW - hell, you have two stations competing against each other in one of the most liberal areas of the country, and the Moonbat station can't even beat them? HA!

Hey - we're off to see the Head Parrot on April 25th at Shoreline. You aren't in the area by any chance?
