Air America found itself on the defense for the second time this week following reports in both the New York Post and New York Daily News today (March 7) implying that the liberal talk network was about to lose its New York flagship station, WLIB-AM.
The Post, in particular, seemed to offer a sensationalist slant to its reporting of the alleged loss of WLIB. Reporter John Mainelli wrote, Air America is close to losing its New York flagship station, knocking Al Franken and his liberal colleagues off the air on the second anniversary. Losing its New York outlet would be a serious blow to the fledgling liberal radio network. Air America's options for a new home are not promising. All of the city's other strong-signal stations are spoken for, leaving only weak-signal fringe stations that do not cover the entire city and suburbs.
Danny Goldberg, CEO of Air America Radio, responded late Tuesday morning to recent reports via the conservative media in a staff memo in which he said, Air Americas ratings in New York went up substantially in the fall 2005 book. Air Americas New York audience is large, growing and valuable. In every conceivable scenario, Air America will continue to be on in New York City.
He went on to stress that Air America Radio is on track to be stronger still in the coming year and years: Our audience is bigger, the total number of affiliates carrying our programming is greater, and the amount of revenue we are generating is increasing.
It is vital, when analyzing chatter about Air America to consider the source, Goldberg continued. In almost all cases, the people who say bad things about our companys business are conservative ideologues who have a particular interest in damaging Air America, for one reason and one reason only: the political opinions expressed by our on air talent. Bill OReilly alone has mentioned Air America on 37 separate occasions since our programming went on the air. Al Franken has offered to debate OReilly in any number of forums including on The OReilly Factor and OReilly has declined.
It's over, Err America.
We need Welfare Reform for Liberal Radio.
Step 1: You are only viable in radio if you can turn a profit.
Step 2: If you need to be subsidized to stay on the air, you are a Welfare State.
Thanks, as I enjoy another shameless day of Schadenfreude re the MSM.
Losers!
A minority-owned station at that?
I bet Bill would love to debate him any time, any where if he was restrained during it.
When Franken gets run over with the facts too much his face gets red and he gets violent, this has happened many times.
I think Bill should push his buttons just to get him to explode and show what an emotional freak the guy is.
Maybe it's because the airwaves still carry the stench of Franken and Co's body odor.
We may express delight when one of your affiliates goes down in flames, but it's only because your ideas are goofy and wrongheaded. You're being slain in the marketplace of ideas- not by some secretive grand cabal of Conservative media personalities- but by your own ideas and ideals, themselves.
air americas audience doubled from 1/2 dozen to a dozen listeners. better call joan baez and all those other walking corpses for a major fund raising drive.
LOL. Why doesn't Danny Goldberg just point away and say "Whoa, look at that thing over there!"
Yes, it's that damn conservative media that's to blame for their failure. More to come soon.

I love Sean Hannity's story about how Franken chased him down the hall, cursing, and actually punched him, after an on-air disagreement. That's a liberal for you!
Good point.
Well said.
Priceless!
