ALARM - Iran has enough uranium gas to produce 10 bombs
VIENNA - the United States estimates that Iran has enough uranium gas to manufacture after enrichment ten nuclear bombs, and they claim new inspections, indicated a diplomat at the IAEA Wednesday to AFP.
US says Iran has enough uranium gas to make 10 nuclear weapons
The United States has alleged that Iran has enough uranium gas to make 10 nuclear weapons and has called for new inspections in the Islamic Republic, a diplomat in Vienna told AFP Wednesday.
A senior US official made the allegations at a closed-door meeting in Vienna of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations' nuclear watchdog, the diplomat said.
The Shahab-6 is expected to have a range of 5,470-5,500 and 5,632-6,200 kilometers with a 1,000-750-500 kilogram warhead. This range capability will depend on the number of stages used in the launch vehicle and their performance. December 1996 news reports claimed that Iran is developing a 3,500-mile (5,632 kilometers) range missile called Shahab-6 that would be capable of reaching Europe.Tehran to...

The thread title should say 'US' instead of 'IAEA'
Are the Euroweenies worried yet? How about George Clooney and Cindy Chavez? All Iran needs to do is set off one nuke with considerable human carnage. They'll then have the bona fides that they'll kill anyone who looks at them cross-eyed -- at which point, they'll move on to oil blackmail and handing out nukes to any towel-headed terrorist who comes knocking, and it's Armageddon.
How quickly will those theoretical elites get average Joe and Jane to demand something be done, because they are so tired of hearing about Iran??
They won't allow themselves to believe it, until it unfortunately, literally FLASHES before their eyes.
They are incapable of believing their feel good approach of appeasement ( read Cowardice) will fail
Mason City? Hmmm, do you think it's a prime target?
Only if they can extend the range of the last warhead dispensed... glide bomb, anyone?
Seriously, I copied that handy list from Little Green Footballs, and I kind of doubt Honolulu has much to worry about either- but if I were in Europe, I'd be getting a bit jittery, now.
I'm sure the point is that the US isn't immediately threatened, like the other countries and cities shown are.
Even China might want to think again the idea or a nuclear Iran.
". . .interviews with many of the world's leading nuclear analysts and a review of technical assessments show that Iran continues to wrestle with serious problems that have slowed its nuclear ambitions for more than two decades."
"Obstacles, the experts say, remain at every step. . .the most significant, they say, involve the two most technically challenging aspects of the process -- converting uranium ore to a toxic gas and, especially, spinning that gas into enriched atomic fuel. According to the analysts, the Iranians need to do repairs and build new machines at a prototype plant before they can begin enriching even modest quantities of uranium. . ."
Now, whom may those "experts" and "analysts" quoted by the Gray Lady be?
"American intelligence agencies say it will take five to 10 years for Iran to manufacture the fuel for its first atomic bomb."
Ah, but Langley typically covers its rear end:
"Most forecasters acknowledge that secret Iranian advances or black market purchases could produce a technological surprise."
And whose responsibility is it to ferret out those "secret Iranian advances?" Why, the same people who are downplaying the Iranian threat. Cool.
Go back to sleep, America -- the Slimes and Langley have it all under control.
Yes... let me see if I can find a map... it's a poor one, for older missiles, but gives an idea of the area, and number of countries under the gun:
Anyone know what the intelligence is on the number of operational centrifuges the Iranians have?
Having enough uranium hexaflouride to make 10 bombs doesn't mean anything if you can't do the next steps - enriching the uranium - separating the U235 isotopes - and then making a bomb out of it.
But then, there is no point having that much uranium gas unless you are enriching it to nuclear power plant grade or weapons grade. And if the IAEA cannot inspect what they are doing with it, one has to assume they are enriching it to weapons grade.
deceptive article title?
The map should be named "the kill zone."
Add another zone for fall-out.
Wonder if Chirc already knew about this when he threaten to nuke anyone that tried to nuke France
Geez .. what a mess this is
That it is. France has always been a wild card in the nuclear "club"-- military people I knew back in the Cold War told me the old USSR was scared to death the French would do something wacky, like blast them unilaterally.
In this situation, that might not be such a bad thing.
"Geez .. what a mess this is"
The main thing is, we keep talking about it, our government keeps talking about "dreadful consequences", iran keeps making bombs, iran's leader keeps discussing that the holocast was a fable, and keeps discussing wiping israel off the map. Sounds like now they have the means to do it. Anyway...have they solved that murder down in Aruba yet? I was sure that dutch boy did it. Oh! Who do you think is going to be in the Final Four? Man, I've got to go hit Sam's tonight. I heard there is a special on bulk pork rinds. :)
