Vermont Town Backs Bush Impeachment (Time To Turn Over This State to Canada)

NEWFANE, Vt. -- In a white-clapboard town hall, circa 1832, voters gathered Tuesday to conduct their community's business and to call for the impeachment of President Bush.

"In the U.S. presently there are only a few places where citizens can act in this fashion and have a say in our nation," said select board member Dan DeWalt, who drafted the impeachment article that was placed on the warning -- or official agenda -- for the annual town meeting, a proud Yankee tradition in New England.

"It absolutely affects us locally," Dewalt said. "It's our sons and daughters, our mothers and fathers, who are dying" in the war in Iraq.

The article, approved 121-29 in balloting by paper, calls on Vermont's lone member of the House, independent Rep. Bernie Sanders, to file articles of impeachment against the president, alleging that Bush misled the nation into the Iraq war and engaged in illegal domestic spying.

Ann Landenberger argued that it was appropriate. "As a teacher I can't say to my kids that what happens on the national level doesn't affect us at the local level," she said.

Greg Record, a justice of the peace, said in an interview after the meeting that the town is made up of people from the "far-left," and he criticized the amount of time and attention such advisory votes get.

"We spend more time on these things than on a million-dollar budget item," he complained.

The president did have his supporters during the debate.

Lenore Salzbrun defended Bush, saying she had close friends who died in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. "I am so grateful that our president didn't just put his head in the sand ... and did go out and fight," she said.

Or better yet, turn Vermont over to Al Qaeda. These Northeastern leftists sickos need to spend a little time under the rule of the people they shill for. And let me guess, they opposed impeaching Clinton for perjury, subornation of perjury, obstruction of justice and subverting the legal process and called all these things "not impeachable." But Bush taking a pro-active stance in defending the nation, that's impeachable to these Alice in Wonderland liberals. Amazing.

Earth to Newfane,

1) Your voice counts as much as anyone else's voice
2) No one cares.

Typical dimwits. They just don't get it. This stupid hammering away only causes the Republicans to band together stronger and makes them look foolish. We have to hit these stupid RATS hard this November.

I think this town should invite Cindy Sheehan to move there. She'll fit right in. (Apologies to the unfortunate conservatives of the town.)

There's a similar but not identical thread down the page a bit.

Actually, many of our fellow conservatives would disagree with you. Because Bush doesn't give them 1000% of what they want and because they got played by the media into believing we're handing over our ports to Osama Bin Laden at no charge (the UAE deal) and because Bush tries to cut spending and Congress puts it all back that we need to stay home and pout on election day and let these crazy freaks like in this Vermont town take over the legislative branch of this nation.

Bush gives them a safer country, lower taxes, conservative judges, a booming economy, higher military spending, a reformist UN ambassador, a partial birth abortion ban and on and on and on and STILL it's not enough for the loonies. They plan to stay home in November to allow Piglosi and Reid to turn Bush into an insta-lame duck by blocking everything he proposes to do once they take over control of the congress because some of us stayed home and stewed in our juices in November.

I agree with you we need to hit these wackball leftist psychotic Bush haters hard, but we're going to need to get some of our own out of their media-fed pouting because of their simple-minded lack of understanding of the port deal. I fear our own side may be our biggest impediment in November.

Vermont Town Backs Bush Impeachment (Time To Turn Over This State to Canada)

If we give "them" all of the places that they have succeeded in corrupting we won't have much of a country left.  For that reason I disagree completely with the premise of the comment added to this title:

It's time to take this state back from "the Canadians" or whoever it is that has infiltrated OUR COUNTRY.

Give the sorry scum to Canada or to the Arabs. They have not been a part of the US for a long time. Their Senators are to worst traitors in history. We do not need people like this during time of war. Let the terrorist have them, since that is what they want.

Unmentioned in the article is how many of these 182 residents have relocated to Vermont from NYC since 1970.

Remnants of "Screamer" Dean, former Governor of the mediocre state of Vermont.

Vermont has roughly 600,000 people and its population is in drastic decline. Young people are leaving the state in droves, and much of their disaffection can be directly traced to Vermont's anti-growth, hyper-environmental, economy killing, socialist policies, all attributable to the pernicious influence 60's era hippies have had on the state.

The impeachment proposal is more evidence of that influence, and more evidence, too, that a once great conservative state is in its death throes.

Good, maybe enough people will leave the state that we can disband it altogether.

Send a cartoon of Muhammed and a big pig eating together and title it "din-din in New Fane, Vermont", then send it, with directions and maps, to Al Jezerra T.V. It will be a lot of fun watching them asking President Bush for the Marines to come and protect them from their terrorist friends. Now that, my friends, would be priceless!

Can we impeach them instead? I think if a crappy little town in Vermont wants to run the country by making silly declarations like this, we ought to have the right to boot 'em out.

The northeast has sucked for a long time. Barry Goldwater wanted to cut it off and let it float out to sea.

I say we trade it for Alberta. We'd be dumping Kennedy, Kerry, Snow, Dean, Chaffee and a lot more sorry losers. We'd also be getting rid of about half the Ivy League schools.

But how will we get our lobster? And can I still order New England Clam Chowder? If so, then let's do the deal. They suck in Vermont anyway, and who would miss those buzzards?

They should emigrate to Canada like the Tories did.

No Dan, this can be done anywhere. There are only a few places as dumb as yours, where it has been done.

If the former impeached and disbarred president Bil Clinton could not be convicted, no one can.
