Vermont Town (full of idiots) Urges Bush Impeachment

NEWFANE, Vt. (AP) -- A small town is urging Vermont's only U.S. congressman to file articles of impeachment against President Bush.

Voters gathered for Newfane's annual town meeting on Tuesday to conduct routine business and vote on the impeachment call. It passed 121-to-29.

The impeachment item says Bush misled the nation into the Iraq war and engaged in illegal domestic spying.

A justice of the peace says that the town is run by what he calls the "far-left."

But a local teacher says she can't tell students "that what happens on the national level doesn't affect us at the local level."

Congressman Bernie Sanders issued a statement that says Bush "has been a disaster for our country" and may have broken the law. But he says Republicans control Congress and "it would be impractical to talk about impeachment."

The People's Republic of Vermont has spoken.

Now the rest of the country can go back to ignoring them.

Well, the Vermont idiots better figure out a way to get rid of Cheney too, because if they somehow manage to get rid of President Bush, they're surely not going to like President Cheney.

Let's see, Howard dean is from Vermont too, isn't he? There must be something in the maple syrup up there that causes brains to rot.

What a great portrait you've painted of the Great Liberal Fungus Creep that's infected the entire Northeast.

Maine suffers from the same affliction.

Infuriating, isn't it?

Too many gender-challenged individuals loaded into a state with 9 months of winter.

Maybe we should hook them up with San Francisco....

They could consolidate their police and fire departments and eliminate the need for a military. Then, they could form their own separate country. (Just a thought)

Every time I travel to Niagara falls or the Buffalo area I bought Vermont flavored cheese. I'm going to stop the practice just in case the "loonies" add something to the process!

It passed 121-to-29.

Meaning the town has a population of 150 or so, and roughly half of the households earn a median income of less than $35K a year. Now check out this Google.com map, showing that Newfane is in the middle of nowhere. As Martin Mull used to say, "isn't it sad when cousins marry?"

Look what's on the map to the lower right of Newfane. Moving closer to civilization, about ten miles down the road, (and it's a narrow road, let me tell you) lies the town of Dummerston.

Good post. When I was a kid my main exposure to Vermont was a great movie called the "The trouble with Harry" and the Newhart show. I always thought it would be cool to live there since I like a group that is a little eccentric. But its pretty amazing a whole State can think this way politically. I really cant think of a reason why such a prevalent group think has developed. In Louisiana its more easier to nail down reasons for peoples belief politics Wise because of the dynamics of race, history, and the assorted standard economic factors. How did Vermont and New Hampshire end up so differently? I see your point about the "hippies" but were they homegrown. Were they out of staters that thought it would be great to own antique stores and inns. Skibums?

Don't you have more compassion for our Canadian friends than that?

Besides, some of the conservative Canadians I know would use them for bear bait!

The entire state (except the NE kingdom) is utterly insane. Every week there is a story in the newspaper about an anti-war resolution being passed during (fill in the name of town)'s annual meeting. The 'F*** BUSH' bumper stickers are everywhere. (Actually spelled out on sticker...not a state to visit with your children.)

Deadheads. They were too stoned to leave when the band left the state.

Sounds like all the missing village idiots got together and founded their own town...

Village idiots are pretty much all over the state of Vermont, based what I've seen up there...

"A justice of the peace says that the town is run by what he calls the 'far-left.'"

Welcome to my world: Madison, WI. ;)

Of course the ONLY reason President Bush won't be impeached is due to the Republican-controlled Congress! The fact that they have no charges or evidence for impeachment is of no matter. *Rolleyes*

Bush has done the heavy lifting that Clinton left for a real man to tackle.

If there is one benefit of illegal Mexican immigrants......

they are bringing some macho into a feminized America!
