That's what happens when you have all the money and guns.
Once you reach a level above 20% Jewish, the perception from outside is that you're at 90%. It happened with my suburban town.
I believe, however, that at one time Lawrence, NY and Livingston, NJ, to name but two towns, were at least 60% Jewish, although this has probably dropped. Nevertheless, what you say is usually correct. Perception equals reality to many people.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but the one violent anti-Semitic incident that happened at my high school was when several guys from a neighboring town trailed a student in his car, flashed their lights, and then beat him up when he pulled over. Although they were shouting things that indicated that they thought he was Jewish, he happened to have a Scandinavian last name and heritage, which was obvious from sight. So the sad irony was they happened to target one of the handful of white Protestants in my high school, which had a Catholic plurality and huge Jewish and Asian populations.

Of course, if you take a look at any street scene in San Jose and on the Pacific Coast, you can see that most Costa Ricans are indeed mestizo, albeit not as Indio as some of their neighbors. There was a lot of cachet attached to whiteness during the era of "racial science" and Latin America was not immune to this, even if it meant redefining nonwhites as "white."
Ok , here is what I don't get . You cant by/rent a shack in the NY Metro area for less than a FOURTUNE ! So , all these minorities must have mucho $$$$$$..True ,there are tons of forner minorities here but there are also thousands of million dollar condos in the 10 square miles around NYC as well. Plenty of rich Asians in north NJ still can't account for the massive amounts of million dollar homes. These immigrants cant aford all these places. Something dosen't jive here.

The poorer immigrants typically rent basement flats and one bedrooms in frame houses in places like Corona, Elmont, and Morrisania, and live several people to a room. Even the lower middle class Arab and Bangladeshi shopkeepers stick two families in one family homes in Queens, Brooklyn, and North Jersey, and these are families with ALOT of kids.
The people who are leaving (the aforementioned blue collar/low level white collar whites) simply don't want to subject themselves to such a situation, to say nothing of the fact that they are historically uncomfortable living among "people of color" whether black, brown, or yellow. Sad to say, but that's the way it is. Meanwhile, American-born blacks are moving south for the same reason, being replaced to a certain extent by West Indians and Africans.
I live in north NJ all my life . What you say is all true but still.Who is living in the thousands of million dollar condos here ? Not all hispanics , that's for sure.

Have friends who live in one of those expensive high rises next to Goldman in Jersey City. Hard to believe that it was once the site of the Colgate plant where my grandpa worked for 40 years.
The key to shifting demographics is birthrates. Yes, there are more affluent whites in the NYC area than most other places in this country, but they tend not to have many children. If you look at all the school districts in NJ that have gained in population considerably, the majority have gained due to immigration.
To give you a better idea, 25 years ago, the city of Newark was on the verge of closing schools in the North Ward, do to flight on the part of the Italian population that once dominated the area. Now the schools are overcrowded due to a large influx of Latin Americans and Middle Easterners.

Really? Tell that to my Cuban friends who's families only settled on the island from Spain at the turn of the last century. Tell that to a certain Argentinean freeper of Italian and Slovenian ancestry who lives in Brooklyn. Tell that to my classmates from Columbia and Venezuela who were whiter than me (my Colombian friend being of English ancestry!).
The reason most NY Latinos don't identify as white is because most are mulatto or mestizo. I have met mullatos from the Dominican Republic with red hair and blue eyes who, nevertheless, have kinky hair and sallow skin from their African ancestors.
