The poorer immigrants typically rent basement flats and one bedrooms in frame houses in places like Corona, Elmont, and Morrisania, and live several people to a room. Even the lower middle class Arab and Bangladeshi shopkeepers stick two families in one family homes in Queens, Brooklyn, and North Jersey, and these are families with ALOT of kids.
The people who are leaving (the aforementioned blue collar/low level white collar whites) simply don't want to subject themselves to such a situation, to say nothing of the fact that they are historically uncomfortable living among "people of color" whether black, brown, or yellow. Sad to say, but that's the way it is. Meanwhile, American-born blacks are moving south for the same reason, being replaced to a certain extent by West Indians and Africans.
I live in north NJ all my life . What you say is all true but still.Who is living in the thousands of million dollar condos here ? Not all hispanics , that's for sure.
