The influx of foreigners to New York and its suburbs and the continuing exodus of non-Hispanic whites to other parts of the country have transformed the face of metropolitan New York so profoundly that whites will constitute a minority of the region's population within a few years, demographers say.
The shift would make New York the first large metropolitan area outside the South and West in which whites do not make up a majority, according to an analysis of 2004 Census estimates by the Brookings Institution that was released yesterday.
The analysis also reveals a historic reversal: For the first time since at least the 19th century, the black population of both the city and, to a lesser extent, the region, has declined. In the five boroughs, according to the estimates, the number of blacks declined by about 30,000 since 2000, dipping below 30 percent of the overall population, as the migration of blacks to the suburbs and areas like the South outpaced immigration from the Caribbean and Africa.

Let's also not forget that most officers, from a second looey up to four star general, have come from the middle to upper classes.
Because to be an Officer you must have native intelligence and do really well on the intelligence tests they give, and while not all rich people are smart, more of them are.
And most Hispanics in this country are not Catholic. Only around 35-40% of Hispanics in the US are part of the Catholic Church. This lack of fidelity to a Catholic identity only heightens the seperation of many Hispanics from any possible identity with the white Catholic ethnics whose neighborhoods they are frequently moving into.
um okay...I'll take that into consideration...all those Mexicans and only 1 in 3 are Catholics...sure.....
Believe it or not, many come here nonbaptized. There is a shortage of priests in Mexico and Central America. Meanwhile, the Evangelical movement has been growing by leaps and bounds. Unofficial estimates have Guatemala at 50% Protestant now.
A million of them will be on Calle Ocho for the big celebration this Sunday. Guess where I will be then? Right there guzzling cerveza and ogling hot Latina chix.

Mexicans have tended to be more faithful in this regard than others, but Mexicans are not by any means all of the Hispanics (20 million Mexicans vs. 15 million other Hispanics). The rates in Dominican and Puerto Rican neighborhoods are truly appalling. The Vatican needs to send over a new Mother Cabrini. A typical parish in a Puerto Rican neighborhood in Philadelphia has the following statistics. St. Hugh of Cluny - 15,200 inhabitants of whom 80% are Puerto Rican, 4,120 Catholics, of whom 90% are Puerto Rican. So just 3,860 of 12,010 Puerto Ricans participate in the life of the local parish - that's 32%, meaning 68% of the Hispanics are NOT Catholic. Of course, a simple drive through the neighborhood could tell you that, with the proliferation of Pentecostal and Evangelical churches.
However, even for the Mexicans, simple exercises can show the problem. The Catholic population of the Diocese of San Antonio is lower than the population of the overall mostly Mexican Hispanic community in the same geography. Considering that there are certainly some Irish, German, Italian, etc. Catholics in San Antonio, clearly, the number of Mexicans who are part of the Church there is no more than 50% or so.
The numbers put out by some Hispanic organizations, such as here are innacurrate, since they overstate the US Catholic population by about 15 million - that's 15 million people who are not registered with the Church and definitely not coming to Mass on Sunday. Most of the overstatement is among Hispanics.

Evangelical Hispanics can be a strange crew. I know a Colombian named Hector, who when I offered to buy him a cup of coffee declined. In response to my astonishment at a Colombian who doesn't drink coffee, he told me because he follows the Bible so I asked him if he was Mormon. He replied no but that he was "Christian" which means he was non-Catholic of either Evangelical or Fundamentalist persuasion (or maybe Pentecostal). Anyway, I told him there is NO prohibition in the Bible to drinking coffee since coffee wasn't discovered as a drink until at least a thousand years after it was written. Hector agreed with that observation but he still wouldn't drink coffee because he didn't want to take any chances that it might somehow be forbidden. Hey, might as well refrain from eatingg popcorn since that isn't addressed in the Bible as well.
Anyway, some of those Latin non-Catholics can be strange. Hector is okay but I think he is missing out on a lot in life because of his need to be "careful."
Well, the outcome lies with them -- they're aborting themselves out of existence.
I could tell you some wild Dominican stories along those lines but my Venezuelan girlfriend is hovering about and might have better English reading skills than I figured since she is taking an ESL class at night.
Over ten years ago, I walked from Central Park down to Ft. Clinton and never heard one word of English.

Speaking of Latin non-Catholics, one of the hottest chicks I ever "knew" (nudge nudge, wink wink) was a Jewish girl from Brazil. Lots of Judias Latinas in South Florida, and in Manhattan as well.

You are forgetting about Jehovah's Witnesses. I don't know about your area of the country but in South Florida they are HUGE among Hispanics and Haitians. I figure at least 40% of Haitians here are JW. Interestingly there are FEW white JWs down here.
