Ethanol Industry Sets Record in 2005

Washington, DC [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) announced that the U.S. ethanol industry set annual production records in 2005, producing just less than 4 billion gallons (3.904 billion gallons) and averaging nearly 255,000 barrels of ethanol production daily, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

"These figures represent not only the tremendous growth our industry is experiencing, but also the future growth that will occur," said RFA President Bob Dinneen.

"Demand for ethanol will only continue to grow as refiners remove MTBE from the marketplace and more Americans switch to this clean burning, renewable fuel," said Dinneen. "The U.S. ethanol industry, with 2.1 billion gallons of capacity currently under construction, will continue to expand to meet this soaring demand."

Currently, 95 ethanol plants have a combined production capacity of more than 4.3 billion gallons a year.

If only we could also grow sugar cane near the equator it might make sense. Maybe if we could import Brazil's cheap sugar or their cheap ethanol.

That's not true. It was debunked a long time ago. Granted, its not a very efficient process, but its still in the plus column, not the negative in terms of energy production.

The energy used to produce it can come from many sources ie solar, wind, natural gas or hydro. In any case it requires more energy (btu's) to produce than it yields. Not arguing your point, just the source of energy.

Gotcha. Yes, much of the ethanol waste is of natural gas to produce fertilizer. Of course if we build more nuke plants we can use them to make H2 directly.

there is plenty of info out there on the success Brazil has had with ethanol production...

do your own research before you embarrass yourself on my threads any further!

Ethanol, more Alaska drilling (needed), Hybrids, more nuclear power, switch more things that are gas to electric (where possible), more bio diesel.... We will rapidly decrease our dependency on foreign oil. We import a lot less than is assumed and talked about in the MSM anyway, since most of those bogus stats don't take off shore drilling into account even if it's right off our boarder. We import roughly 1/3 of our oil but even that is to much.

Great, we should buy their ethanol then. Sounds much cheaper than much less efficiently making our own.

Good. If America could just cut 10% of OPEC oil in the coming months it would have an impact on their terrorist supporting butts. It's only unfortunate that we will have to pay more because we can't supplement with ANWR.
