Sounds like a terrorist threat.

You prefer arson to port management by DPW.

I prefer no port to an activity which funds or aids terrorism; see I am biased that way. I also see no reason to invest tax payer dollars to provide port facilities for foreign enterprises. So either find a US company to handle the docking slips or nationalize them.

The INSTANT it became known that Bill Clinton profited by "advising" Dubai, and Ex President Carter "the crazy" approved of the deal -- the "deal" died...

The Republicans can only look arrogant and insensitive to the average American's attitude of TOTAL distrust of ARAB MUSLIMS with ANY LEVEL access to ANYTHING critical to our National Security....

This will be true, until DECADES of ACTIONS by Arab Muslims, such that trust can be established --- not merely requested or awarded...

This "deal" together with the Bush Administration's refusal to shut down our borders to the illegal's invasion and to expel the bulk of those already here, will cost the party dearly in subsequent elections..

For those of us that believe only a violent internal revolution can set America back on the path to America's survival and sovereignty --- it may be best to help elect the leftist fools that would surely accelerate that unhappy day...

"to take over the operations of six major American ports "

CORRECTION: to take over the operations of a few terminals at six major American ports

A terminal does not equal a port. Get it?

Everyone is dirty today. The Israeli's are selling top notch state-of-the-art avionics to China, in direct defiance of requests by us to restrict such technologies.

None of our friends are pure.

Do you have evidence that Dubai Ports World has funded or aided terrorism?

And the other thing. No U.S. company is doing this business. Because of the union, maybe. Imagine if we nationalize the terminal business.

And why should Mohammed Sharaf care if the deal sinks the GOP?

No, it's a lie and a misrepresentation of the facts, as the lead point in this slanted so called news report does, to characterize the deal as DPW taking over 6 U.S. ports. They are not taking over any ports.

Headlines are driving this ugly story. Not facts.

The fact is U.A.E. does not recognize Israel and has an ongoing boycott against Israel, one of our strongest allies. Thats enough for me

Somewhere in the interview it was mentioned that CEO Sharaf is a graduate of the University of Arizona. Why must they come here to be educated? Aren't there any descent schools in the middle East?

"No but we do discussed the behavior of arrogant people in positions of influence."

All people in positions of influence are arrogant. It goes with the territory. I don't like arrogant people either...unless they say the same thing I would. If they don't, I call them 'arrogant'...or worse.

At least try to follow the story. "The deal" that Sharaf was talking about was the deal for Dubai to buy P&O, a British Co. P&O is a world-wide shipping co. They have terminal operations in many countries (all of which ship to the US ports).
Dubai is going to buy P&O whether or not the US terminals (not *ports*, TERMINALS) are included. So, the deal is done.

If, for some stupid reason (and it would be stupid), we didn't let them operate these 6 terminals, the price would be lower. The P&O shareholders would lose money, and we'd have a disruption in trade.

It's really short-sighted to allow a tantrum to disrupt our economy.

Yeah, money over American lives. Sounds like a fair trade off to me. What's the big deal over a few thousands lives, they won't even be missed. /sarc

You people for this deal better pray nothing happens and is tracked back to the ports. That's gonna be a lot of guilt to carry around.

God forbid we have a tantrum because U.A.E does not even recognize Israel's right to exist and partipates in an ongoing boucott of Israel.

Yeah they service many of our ships.
But Iran is a stone-throw away from U.A.E.
They should be paying us for protection

I don't have a problem with rewarding a good ally.
Just not with our ports. Let them buy Mcdonalds or Burger King

By "our economy", you must be referring to the world economy. It wouldn't be bad for the US economy to bring these management responsibilities in-house.

"At least try to follow the story. "The deal" that Sharaf was talking about was the deal for Dubai to buy P&O, a British Co...."

The very first paragraph, made clear that Sharaf opened the discussion with the AMERICAN Terminals that were included.

"It's really short-sighted to allow a tantrum to disrupt our economy."

It's insane to expose our economy any more than it already is to the unpredictable actions of Arab Muslims..

A nuclear blast or biochemical release will do more than "disrupt our economy".

"The P&O shareholders would lose money, and we'd have a disruption in trade."

Frankly, I couldn't care less if the P&O shareholders lose their freaking shirts.... Our National Security should ALWAYS take precedence over foreign interests...

I'm learned through experience, that one is not trusted with critical tasks or allowed access to critical areas until they have proved their steadfast reliability and status as ally...

To date, all I've heard about the positive cooperation received from UAE -- have been services for which they've been PAID.

Being a willing vendor or supplier - does not make one an ally.

The Saudis sell us oil, and buy our weapon systems...
Do you seriously consider the Saudis as our "reliable ally" in the war against militant Islam?
