The removal of the Confederate flag from Amherst County's official seal has upset Southern heritage groups, who contend residents weren't told of the change. County officials acknowledge the image was quietly removed in August 2004 to avoid an uproar.

It is you who live in fantasyland without fact or truth.
It is you who spew bile at all who dare to challenge the crap you accept as truth.
Ever wonder why your fellow Defenders of the Slaverocracy avoid your nonsense? It is too embarrassing even for them. LoL.
You do like the completely extraneous but inflammatory anecdote, don't you? I like to imagine that you have them on index cards right next to your computer.
Now, for the record, I never charged Jackson with anything. He was a smashing fellow. Taught his slaves good Christian values. Out of the kindness of his heart let one old man have some free time so that he could try to buy his freedom before he died. Lovely man.
What I did do was to mock your contention that the only reason the slaves of the south didn't rise up and either run away or kill their masters in their beds (and both happened plenty) was the--what was it, "Bonds of love and affection?"--between slave and master. Somehow it seems to me that whips, chains, dogs, guns, slave patrols, pass laws, anti-literacy laws, press and mail censorship and a host of other, more tangible factors may have been the reason. "Bonds of love and friendship" tended, in fact, to undermine uprising plots, as loyal slaves would tip off their masters.
My comparison to Jews and Nazis was one of many I could have chosen. Why don't the North Koreans rise up against Kim? Why didn't the Shiites rise up against Saddam? History if full of oppressed people who stayed oppressed.
And of course the fact is that the slaves did attempt to rise. Some put the number of attempted uprisings between 1776 and 1860 at 200. They were brutally put down and further oppressive laws were enacted.
There's also plenty of evidence of a southern paranoia about uprisings that borders on hysterical at times. That doesn't sound very compatible with love and affection. The truth, as ever, lies somewhere in between. Some slaves were loved and loved their masters in return. Twas ever thus.
Now, in keeping with your precedent of the unconnected anecdote of Man's Inhumanity to Man, here's one I recently came across:
In 1016, a Byzantine army under Emperor Basil II surprised the Bulgar army at Cimbalongus. Fourteen thousand Bulgars were captured. The Emperor ordered that they all be blinded, except for one man out of every hundred who was left with one eye in order to lead the others back to their king, who died of shock and grief when he learned what had happened.
Sorry but the rewriting occurs when parties claim the Traitors were right to secede and had a right to secede.
Southerners who were duped into defending the very system which was crushing them and driving them out of the South are to be pitied. Those duping them into treason are to be hated.
It was the media which made the Lost Cause appear noble to the nation through such films as Birth of a Nation and Gone With the Wind. Rare were the films defending the Union. Even tv shows abounded glorifying the Slavers' cause.
The greatest enemies the South and Southerners ever had were the Slavers who dragged the region into disgrace, defeat and desolation. They are no more representative of today's South than the Nazis are of today's Germans.
I will concede the technological part. The South was agricultural.
Not at all. Me, myself, and I.
I am in a better position to know about Grant than most.
He was (gasp, choke) the "yankee in the woodpile".
In other words, kin.
I haven't seen any sign of you even coming close to "destroying" my arguments. You are a legend. (in your own mind)
Then prove it and GO away. :)
There are plenty of ignorant Yankees on FR to take your place.
My people won ~ those people lost. It's time for them to get over it.
Isn't it interesting how more and more people are moving to the South from the east because the east has gotten so crowded, with very high taxes----watch out it seems the South WILL rise again!
Neither area is all that crowded
I've often thought you had Northern people moving Souf' because the maid service is less costly.
The North was even more dominant culturally. As my list shows and it is far from exhaustive.
That pre-war dominance has not been maintained (IMO) in the decades since the war in literature and music. In those the South leads.
That is neither here nor there. General Lee would in no way share your disdain for Grant. Nor any other Southern military man. It is the kind of thing a newspaper reporter would say sitting FAR from the frontlines.
No knowledgeable person would claim such a thing.
Those would be the only ones the Lost Causers could handle.
Is someone holding a gun to your head forcing you to respond? Or can you just not hold yourself back from further displays of ignorance and deceit?
