Freepers cirque23, firebrand, and AliVeritas were among the crowd at the demonstration today in support of freedom at the Danish Consulate. Another freeper was there who forgot his screen name but was part of the DC demonstrations outside Cheney's house in 2000. Juliej could not get out of work until 1, so she missed it, but she did try to stop by.
We started assembling at the northwest corner of 47th and Second Avenue. A guy with a Viking helmet, another guy with a Lego sign, a guy with a Danish flag painted on his face, lots of people with signs and flags and T-shirts, a woman handing out little squares of Havarti--were all there. The only reporter I spoke to was from New York Press. I told him to get rid of the pornography but he was nice and interviewed me anyway. (Famous last words?)
The police discovered us after about 15 or 20 minutes and moved us to the diagonal corner, the southeast corner of 47th and Second (the western end of Hammarskjold Park). There were rumors that Hitchens was going to be there but I guess that's what they were: rumors only.
I was handing out a list of Danish products, but it kept getting expanded by people who were there. One guy had a big sign with Danish product names on it, so I copied some from him too. The list appears below.
The organizing blogger is Snarksmith. I'm not sure of the guy's real name, but I hope he will show up here and take a bow. You might want to take a look at his website. This is where cirque23 saw the demonstration announcement.
It was quite cold, and we were glad to break up a little after 1 p.m. It was a very nice, illustrious-looking crowd, all true lovers of freedom.

Oh really, so the fact that the cartoonists are Danes, the comment was made about the cartoonists, and copied that exact way, means nothing.
More rolling of eyes.
No idea, maybe it was a bad paste job or she read the original post wrong. Who knows...
Great job all! Good pictures. Looks like you got a good turn out. Excellent!
Dansk vodka too. That was all we could find to buy, but hubby (the vodka expert in this house) prounounce it "very, very good".
And it comes in a super cool looking thermos like bottle.
Nice work FB!
I'll be sure to be at the next one.
Last week I bought Dak smoked salami sausage, Danish blue cheese and Danish feta cheese. I highly recommend all three. I couldn't find the butter cookies, but they are delicious.

The cartoonists are welcome to move to the US.
Are you sure? It's a great idea but we've been filling up our quota with refugees who have never seen a refrigerator and don't know what indoor plumbing is.
Maybe you should have gone to FIU then you would be able to read that little bit about the CARTOONISTS!!!!
For anyone shopping in NJ or LI, Pathmark has a sale (until Friday) on Dak and Hafnia 1# hams. Get the butter cookies (huge tin) at BJ's.
I admire your stamina. It had to have been 10 degrees with the wind chill factor.
Lenge leve Danmark! (Long live Denmark!)
bttt
There was a guy there from Georg Jensen/Royal Copenhagen. I had omitted them from my list but added them in by hand at the rally. Both lines are really beautiful, if anyone has any wedding presents to give.
Investigate Carlsberg Elephant...it's well worth your effort.
I've spent a fair amount of time in Danish homes.....let's see...Lolland....Rynkobing...Lemvig...Struer...Norre Alslev...Fejo....Kobenhavn...Vejle........
Immaculate homes, beautiful hardwood floors, bathrooms to die for....
Tea and pastries, smorrebrod and frigadiller, and laugther...
Friendly people who like Americans, beautiful (as in, "WOW!!!!")young women....
I wish some Danes would come to visit me....We can get Elephant around the corner.......My wife is a very good cook, and we can make Frigadiller with venison....
Skaal Y'all.....
We have Dansk china - they also make very pretty stainless flatware which we use for every day. And quite a number of furniture items in our house came from a local shop called House of Denmark that imports Danish furniture. It's all veneer but very well made.
