KARACHI, Pakistan Bomb blasts near the U.S. consulate in Pakistan's largest city Thursday wounded five people, a police official said. One bomb exploded outside the consulate setting 10 cars on fire, police official Javed Akbar said. He did not know whether the wounded were attached to the consulate, or whether they were injured by the blast or the fire. Another bomb exploded about the same time in a parking lot of a hotel yards away, Akbar said. The blasts occurred days before a visit by President Bush to Pakistan, a key U.S. ally in the war against terrorism.

the Prez and entourage might well have spent the nite on Diego-Garcia....safest place in the vicinity.
"The blasts occurred days before a visit by President Bush to Pakistan"
That might be a bit of concern:
Secret Service: Mr. President, there's been a bombing at the US embassy in Pakistan.
Pres: THE US embassy in Pakistan?
SS: Yessir.
Pres: The Pakistan that I'm going to in a couple of days?
SS: Yessir.
Pres: Like, in two days.
SS: Pretty much sir.
Pres: Okay.............................when do we land?

KARACHI, Pakistan - Two bomb blasts Thursday shattered windows at the U.S. consulate and a luxury hotel in Pakistan's largest city, killing two people and injuring 18, a police official said.
The bombs ripped through the parking lot of the Marriott Hotel in Karachi, about 20 yards from the consulate gate, police official Mushtaq Shah said.
The bombings occurred two days before President Bush is to visit the capital Islamabad for talks on the fight against al-Qaida and loyalists of Afghanistan's former Taliban. Pakistan is a key U.S. ally in the war against terrorism.
Shah said both explosions were caused by car bombs.
Yes, two dead.
I hope the dead and wounded are not Americans.
Lots going on in Pakistan lately. Let's hope this means we get some big results...
Diego Garcia sounds like a fine cigar an impeached president would have used with an intern. (You may be correct about where he is staying.)
Except the blast was in Karachi next to one of our consulates. The embassy's in Islamabad. 8)
A U S foreign service worker and his driver were killed. Also, 1 or 2 bystanders in the immediate vicinity were killed. The perp was able to ram the explosive laden vehicle directly into the target vehicle carrying the U S foreign service worker.
What does "vice worker" mean? Guy that does work when others are incapacitated, or the guy that pays the ho's?
Are you trying to be a Paine in the a$$?
Paine is a troll.
Ignore him.
"I still don't believe Pakistan is assisting us all they can in the WOT."
Probably not. But I think they are slowly coming around. Hopefully Musharraf can hang on for the long run and it doesn't turn into 1979 again. Boy, you talk about a balancing act that Bush has to walk between India and the Paks. Frankly, I've dealt with them both here in the states and have never experienced any animosity towards america, in my small world, so I wish them both well and peace.
Actually, it's a Spanish Anagram...."Mas_Paine"
So far the fact that a US foreign service officer was killed doesn't seem to be getting a lot of comment here. His car was apparently intentionally rammed by a bomb-laden car driven by a terrorist.
I agree. Two FSOs were also injured. Pakistan is a dangerous place. Our embassy in Islamabad was burned down on November 20, 1979,. I visited the burned out embassy a few days later. Eventually, Pakistan paid for the rebuilding, but they could not repay the loss of life.
