DeLay Faces Stiff Competition [Tom Campbell] in Even the Republican Primary
KBTV ^ | 3/1/2006

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay faces a stiff re-election battle in Texas. Some political analysts say he`s not even a safe bet to win Tuesday`s Republican primary, in which he faces three challengers.

If he survives, he will square off against former Democratic Congressman Nick Lampson in November.

DeLay, once one of the most powerful politicians in Washington, is fighting a criminal indictment and links to the Jack Abramoff corruption scandal.

DeLay resigned from his leadership post in January.

He has denied doing anything wrong and says the allegations against him are politically motivated.

His rivals say DeLay`s tough tactics are simply catching up to him. For example, one of his top challengers in the Republican primary is Tom Campbell, who used to support DeLay.

Campbell says he doesn`t agree with DeLay`s, quote, "win at any cost version of slash-and-burn politics." Lampson, a Beaumont native, calls DeLay a "bully" and says voters have gotten tired of his style.

Just what I was suspected of.
I am a huge supporter of Delay & I am sick to death of the Gutless wonders in the RINO party serving in DC!
So, Campbell is the "fraidy Cat" candidate?

Ah, got it. "Free Traitor". You're a wordsmith.

Cute.

I'm actually with you on that one, but I still support Tom for other reasons.

Same thing with Bush. I don't agree with everything he has done, but I still support him.

Campbell sounds like he will fit right in with the rest of the Republicans in washington. Dont make any waves, Be Mr. nice guy, Kiss the Democrats butts. Tom Delay had balls , something lacking in the pants of most Republican senators.

And I can be certain that I voted for integrity.

What makes you think Campbell won't be accused of shady activities concocted by the DNC/MSM? All it takes is to receive a donation from a felon or lobbyist who money-laundered it through a credible PAC or organization.

If he wins, Campbell will be like a new prison inmate stepping off the prison bus and getting stares and wolf whistles from the hardened convicts. He simply doesn't know who or what he's dealing with.

When using the term "Fraidy Cat" I was actually referencing the GOP leadership. Not Campbell himself.
I know nothing of the man, I just hate that the left was able to destroy Tom Delay with slander & the politics of personal destruction.
Of course, based on the GOP throwing Delay overboard, its easy to see why the left continues their deceit.
Apparently, it works.

I do have issue with trade treaties that hurt the middle class like nafta and cafta.

Are you going to vent at the President and the majority of Republicans in Congress who also voted for them?

Yes, truth hurts.

You and voters like you enable the Dims to use their sleazy tactics on our reps.

Truth hurts.

Yep. The Dems smelled blood when the Pubbies cut and ran on DeLay. DeLay did a brilliant job of defending himself but of course the MSM aren't going to show his side of the story.

Tom Campbell has earned your vote?
Perhaps you could enlighten me on his record?
What issues specifically does this Campbell stand for that differ from Delay?
I can't help but wonder why how you can so easily discount 20 Years of Delays public service. Not to mention his willingness to stand up to the liars on the left.
Like I said, no wonder Dems continue to destroy the lives & reputations of decent people. It works. There are always plenty of GOP voters and GOP leaders on hand to throw true Conservatives like Tom Delay under the bus.
