Just because you're Islamophobic
Orlando Sentinel ^ | 2/26/2006 | Kathleen Parker

As I inadvertently failed to mention in an earlier column on the subject, the ports in question already were managed by a British company, which is selling the operational rights to Dubai Ports World with American approval. As I've now written in countless e-mails, "Some foreign companies are more foreign than others."

Great Britain, though home to the infamous shoe bomber, is nonetheless a blood brother in the war against terror. The UAE is now being lauded as helpful in that global fight, but its history relative to terrorism is problematic. The emirates joined Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in recognizing the Taliban as the official government of Afghanistan. The UAE also was a transfer point for shipments of nuclear components to Iran, North Korea and Libya.

Given that history, it's hard to pretend that there's no reason whatsoever for concerns about Dubai Ports, a government-owned company, managing U.S. ports.

The thing I've found is that most folks who toss around the "R" word usually have run out of any good arguments.

I'm not Islamophobic.
But I am Bombophobic!

No one is stopping you from believing chuckie schumer.

Once again Dane, yet another very well reasoned out, well-thought out post indicating your intelligence, ability to reason, debate, apply logic, and make your points!

Brilliant if I do say so myself!

Allow me to counter:

How does it feel to sidle up to Jimmy Carter?

Inquiring minds want to know!

LMAO!!! Amusing nonetheless. ; )

Don't try to confuse the issue. Show me the complaints about the port DP World runs.

This has NOTHING to do with assimilation of immigrants.

Phobia implies an unwarranted fear. Fearing a group that wants to kill you is not a phobia...it's common sense. You never hear the term Christianophobia, yet the muslims always claim that Christians are doing something to them. So I guess that muslims aren't phobic?

Perhaps islamomania would be a better term...yes, I am suffering from islamomania...I'm mad that islam is killing off other religions...I'm mad that our government is turning a blind eye to this disease called islam...and I'm mad that everyone exposing the truth about islam is called an islamophobe.

Bush said he would veto any ruling out of the house regarding this, then he says he didn't know. Tell me that this doesn't sound like someone else is running things. Add this on to the Miers nomination, and the President saying "MY government has looked into this and decided" and I get a bit shaken.

If they don't follow our rules and regulations that we put on them at the OUR port we can shut them down in a minute. Settle down. So far they have done everything IF NOT MORE than we have asked of them, they have joined the CSI(Container Security Initiative) AND they are doing a Mega Port Project on their own that would allow for screening of possible radioactive materials.

Fruitbat, I don't know if you know but Dane is Commandante of our resident San Patricio Battalion. Since the demise of bayourod she is the FR numero uno apologist for illegal immigration. Her position here is in keeping with her total subordination of the security of this nation to the cheap labor corporate bottom line.

Actually I trust my instincts more than some General anyday. If it is not about war planning, setting up battle plans, or assigning duties in military situations, a General is a poor person to ask about this and many other things.

I worry when a figurehead is in charge. You are absolutely right. The moronic and empty veto threat immediately followed by, "Bush knows nothing", from his shaken aides. Some have attempted to argue that this is some brilliant 'strategery'. I just see bumbling incompetence.

To spring this on Congressional Republicans in an election year !??? Who was thinking what ?

So a Generals knowledge of the theater he has operated from is no good, while your non-experience in that same theater is superior.

OhhKayy.

Golly, if Islam is so hostile to non-Muslims, how can Americans even be surviving in Islamic countries? I mean, according to your rhetoric, as soon as they step off a plane, they would be set upon by murdering rabid packs of enraged citizens! Last I heard, lots of american companies were operating in the Middle East, Africa, Indonesia, etc.

So stop tarring everybody with a wide brush.

Most Muslims are hard-working, not violent, and want to get along with the world. A minority is hard-core radical, JUST AS IN Judaism (that Kach group) and Christianity (Bader-Meinhof, Branch Davidians, etc.

So get off your hatefest and stop throwing gasoline on the fire.

A general gets to the position he is in, by playing the POLITICS game well. He is in fact a politician, not a leader of men when he opens his mouth. Of course in his expert opinion on all things concerning war, his opinion is strong, like Wesley Clarks opinion. Or do you discount ones opinion, and not the others, because they agree or disagree with you? I am a free citizen of this country, and MY opinion means as much as the generals in this regard, in fact much more to me. I am rarely in the majority with my opinions, this time I am, because this issue is about much more than trust. It is about open dealings, and listening to the sovereigns of this country, the US citizen.

Wow, someone answered my post, without calling me a kook. Most times on this forum, if you honestly speak without censoring yourself, you get whacked at. I voted for Bush twice, but many times over his tenure, it looks like he is just the figurehead. It is hard to say that, because his enemies say that all the time. Maybe they see something those of us that don't wish to see, see?

It drives me nuts, that the first thing someone wishing to discredit an argument does, is attack the poster and their past.

A wise FReeper responded on another port' controversy thread this morning...and I apologize for not giving him/her credit, but I can't recall who said it...that the time for magnanimity is after you've won the war, not while you're fighting.

No doubt your opinion means much more to you, it does to every one, just don't get mad at me when I'll trust someone with experience in that part of the world, Gen. Tommy Franks, rather than someone who doesn't, you jeremiah.

Of course Americans can work in the Muslim world. Provided they stay within their fortified compounds.
